I stayed there about 7 years ago on a BH weekend, we ended up in a very cramped overflow field (sloping) not great and fairly old/run down dirty facilities and very basic, so unless it's had a major rebirth we wouldn't return, more recently we stayed at woodyhyde just the other side of Corfe Castle which was an ideal basic site for us, top field had no dogs/vans just tents, quite quiet, decent shower block, well stocked shop, close to Corfe & the steam railway line in to Swanage.

We're going there tomorrow for the long weekend. Friends have recommended it after going last year, so hopefully it has improved. We have been told though, that it can get busy and that we are likely to be camping amongst the trees.

I will report back next week!

So, just about dried out from the weekend. In response to OneDS, I think you'll find that Burnbake is very different to what you experienced, seven years ago. The facilities, I thought were top notch. The shop has a great range of stuff for sale from fresh food, camping essentials, through to cheap little things for the kids to buy. The showers and loos were plentiful and clean. They have also recently opened a small cafe which was great for a fresh coffee, but also did hot meals and cream teas.

We made a bit of a first time visitor's mistake, in going for the first decent looking pitch without going around the site first. There are two distinct areas, the event field and the main site. The event field seemed like a waste of time to us, as it is a huge open space with a few portaloos in the middle. It obviously serves a purpose, but probably only for large groups (as the name suggests, I suppose).

The main site is definitely family orientated. There is a large play area and rope/tyre swings are dotted around the site. The main site has a good mix of decent sized, clear spaces, or more intimate spots tucked away in the woods. The owners encourage plenty of spacing (minimum of six meters) and it didn't feel crowded.

The consensus from our group (two families with kids from 3 to 12) was that we would certainly go again, and would recommend it as being family friendly and having relaxed, laid back feeling.
