I'm just doing a bit of research on behalf of my mum and dad who own a 2009 Autotrail Dakota. It has a TV setup which includes two TV's and a freeview box which all work fine in good signal areas using the roof mounted status aerial. The only issue is in bad signal areas where campsites have individual TV sockets they have to put the aerial lead through the window, up into the locker which has the freeview box and unplug the status aerial and plug the lead in. My intention is to install an external TV point and wire it up to the locker behind the panels. This would then allow them to plug the wire straight into the side of the motorhome and not have to both unplugging things at the back of the freeview box. Where I get stuck is how to allow both aerials to plug in. Is there a switch available that can take two aerials and you can just flick a switch depending on which aerial they want to use?

Cheers in advance for any help.

Maplins do 2 into 1 coax adapters, I would have thought if you took the existing status lead into one side, your new lead into the other, then one one out to the freeview box, that would do.
When on status, you have no signal from the external source, when on external signal switch the status box off so no signal, job done.
I wouldn't mind seeing your end job for my Autotrail.

Cheers for the quick reply. I hadn't thought of switching the Status box off. If this was accidentally left on and both aerials connected could this cause anything to break, or just rubbish reception?

Cheers

Just to update this... I have just finished fitting the external aerial. I opted to have a reel of aerial cable next to the leisure battery as it had space for a second battery which was not been used. I then wired this into the motorhome through existing holes, up to the tv cabinet behind all the trim. Once into there I used a 2 - 1 connector to wire in the two aerial sources into the one tv input.

This has worked lovely and needs no unplugging or anything. The TV uses the roof aerial most the time with great signal, then when needed open the battery side, undo the TV aerial cable and plug it in then the battery side can be closed meaning no wire dangling out of windows.

I have also fitted a mobile phone hidden with tracking software on it which works great and also allows for the phone to be used as a wifi router so wireless internet as well smile

My parents are very happy with the motorhome now!!!
