Going up there in Sept for a bit of a road trip and I know where I'm going to be staying in the Trossachs, Isle of Skye and the Highlands but was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for places near Inverness and Edinburgh? Any ideas welcome.

The camping & caravan site at Rosemarkie is good, albeit very quiet.
Pitches right on the sea front (Moray Firth) looking out at Fort George.
If you walk up to Chanory point at around 4 ish the dolphins come in on the turning tide, almost guaranteed.

Quiet is what I want. I was looking at that one so you suggesting it may have swung it for me. The other option was to keep driving to Aviemore and camp there but I may just take the car ferry from Nigg to Cromarty and camp at the one you suggest

This place just outside Inverness is great. I had a camping area pretty much to myself right up at the shore of the Beauly Firth. Decent showers & loos as well.

Edit, sorry, must have left the url off!

Agreed, great site and perfect for dolphin watching. The ground is rock hard, take a sledgehammer and some sturdy pegs if you're using a tent.

Wigwam sites are great. Dry, warm, leccy sockets etc. even had a fridge in the last one I was in.
