Located a few miles from Parentis en Borne and Biscarosse, where there is a decent beach.
We have stayed at this aire in France a couple of times and it's amazing. It is located out in the sticks, next to a huge freshwater lake that is greta for swimming, a marina and there's a couple of small local pubs and shops.
It costs 4.50 Euros pn low season, 7.50 high season, and is well worth it.
The lake is amazing, has a couple of little beaches, you can swim out half a mile and still only be neck high, so great for kids. there is also great fishing there and you eat what you catch, for free.
Best aire we have visited in France, and we've been to a few.
Sully Sur Loire France. The site at Sully is situated on the opposite side of the Loire river to Sully town. I first camped there in 1989, when my ex wife and I stopped for a few days in our 1973 Series 3 Land Rover en route to the Pyrenees. Went back again for a long w end on my Z1000R Lawson rep in August 1991.
In 93, we stayed in the Hotel there , but i Can't beleive I hadn't been back again until August 2010 in my van. This site is Still lovely. Some of the pitches have a great view of the river.
In 1940 fierce fighting took place here between the Bosch and the frogs.
Sully has a stunning Chateu and just past this is a good size Aire which I never knew was there. Sully is a nice Town and well worth a visit.

Scotland - Dumfries and Galloway - Sandhead- Sands of Luce Holiday Park
Firstly, I should mention I am entirely bias as I do in fact run this site!
It is a multi award winning family run park on one of the most spectacular beaches you are ever likely to see. What's more you can drive on to it from the site!
We cater for tourers, tents and have rental holiday homes.
We work hard running a top notch, clean, friendly site. We get very positive feed back and a simple google search will find many positive reviews.
The area has magnificent scenery and spectacular roads. Well worth a visit for the whole family.

Scotland - Highlands and Islands - Skye - Kinloch Campsite
I was told that the old chap that ran this place is no longer with us, but he was great. First time I went I was in the Alfa 156, and was with a mate in his Chimaera. Comments included "Not many Alfas make it this far" and "Your mate is a bit flash, isn't he?" I went again with the OH three years later, still in the Alfa. He remembered me - asking with some surprise "It's still going then?" whilst pointing to the car. He than turned to the OH and whispered conspiratorially "He was with a blonde last time" I later asked him how he managed to remember me. "You don't see many diesel Alfas do you?" he said. Lovely chap.
Anyway - the campsite it on the shores of the loch, is nice and quiet, has all the amenities you need and is kept clean and tidy. A beautiful place.

Tal-y-bont, 5-miles North of Barmouth. Islawrfford camping, caravans and statics. Not cheap but possibly the best, newest and cleanest facilities on any campsite I've ever visited. Right on the coast. http://www.islawrffordd.co.uk/
National Showcaves centre for Wales - http://www.showcaves.co.uk/pages/caravan.html Fab site, great grounds, really well looked after. Super shower/toilet block, gallons of hot water and a drying room for those inevitable wet clothes. No large, rowdy groups.
Celtic Camping - Pembrokeshire. Possibly one of the most incredible views of the sea horizon. At least 100 degree view. The facilities appear to be continually updated. Had a great week there. http://www.celtic-camping.co.uk/
Tretio Caravan and Camping (Pembrokeshire nr. St Davids) www.tretio.com -Close by Celtic Camping above but slightly more inland. Wasn't sure about this place initially as I like quieter campsites with more space but went with friends (they had caravans we had a big tent) worked very well as a family camping trip with kids. Nice owners good clean facilities.
Hillfort Tipis and Camping (Pembrokeshire -nr Goodwick) hillfort-tipis.co.uk -Went with wife and kids to try out our new tent for a weekend. Very different to your average campsite, quite sparse and alternative but well worth a look. You arrive to see a bit of a tip where the guy who runs it lives but he couldn't have given us a warmer welcome. There was a big football match we all wanted to see and I asked if we could borrow one of their small generators to get our TV going in the tent. Instead, he ran around decking out an old caravan and making it cosy just for us with a big TV and it was a great night we'll always remember. Top bloke. Lots of space with relatively few pitches, it feels very private and quiet. Facilities are a bit Heath Robinson but it all works and is clean. Great views and walks right on the Pembrokeshire coast. Only thing you have to be aware of (like most Pembs coastal campsites) is what you gain in great views, you lose in lack of shelter and exposure to the wind. There was no cosy campfire for us as it was just too breezy. Memorable weekend though.

Cracking little site run by an English couple but certainly not Little England like. Its a camp site not a holiday park so no bar or entertainment if thats your thing. The shower/toilet/wash up facilities are excellent and always clean. There is a small shop that sells some basics but its only 15-20 min from a supermarket as well.
Cars are parked a hundred yards or so from the camping so no electric plug in for cool boxes etc but there is a large US style fridge in the wash up for use by campers.
One charming aspect that we enjoyed was the fact that each evening the owner takes an order for the local bakery which he delivers early next morning.

Excellent facilities, outdoor heated pool, dog walk, bar/grill and games room. Entertainment most nights. Very clean shower block, with unlimited shower time (no need to keep pressing the button!).

Toilet and washing up facilities are a little limited but never caused us a problem despite it being high season, and they were extremely clean.
Great little bar, a good selection of bottled ales as well as spirits and canned/bottled lagers and ciders. Mismatched furniture like church pews set in a converted barn space gave it a really cosy feel and the atmosphere was very friendly.
The owners were very helpful when we needed anything, and the kids had great fun helping with the animals each morning.

Excellent facilities, although the shop is only open a couple of hours in the morning and again in the afternoon. Water points everywhere, the pool is nice, we never tried the cafe but others said it was good, staff very helpful.
Go for a pitch on the meadow as the pitches on the camping field are packed in a bit.

Wonderful place to stay yards from the beach, with the opportunity to see the UK's only resident pod(s) of dolphins.
Dordogne France
found a great site near the town of Montignac in the Dordogne run by a couple from Halifax who give a wonderful reception to campers. It's Adult only so if you want a break from the kids it peaceful and beautiful situation, also very dog friendly with some pitches having dog pens. The whole place is immaculate and the shower block is like a hotel , one of the best sites we have come across .

Merley Court, Wimbourne Nr Poole https://www.shorefield.co.uk/camping.../merley-cou...
The site is operated by Shorefield who have a number of touring and mobile home sites in Hampshire/Dorset. The site has a handful of mobile homes on the edge of it, accesses from a different place to the touring site.
The site offers a range of pitches from full hardstanding (why you'd camp there I have no idea sees akin to camping in a car park!), to grass. I think most have electric hook-up. There are 2 toilet blocks, an outdoor pool, shop, small bar/cafe.
We have been to this site on a number of occasions, as part of the Shorefield sites you can use the leisure facilities at there Oakdene site down the road although they do get extremely busy. The site is nicely segretgated, and run in a fairly relaxed manner, the staff have always been friendly and helpful and the toilet blocks are kept clean. Occasional queues for showers, but nothing extreme. The shop is reasonable offering newspapers, fresh croissants, the essentials, small range of camping essentials. For more camping essentials theres a camping shop almost next door and a caravan dealer just down the road. The swimming pool is smallish but perfectly adequate and has a small bar/cafe adjacent. Not really used the bar/cafe but it is small so no issues with noise etc. On staff helfulness daughter decided one wet day she wanted a swim, but the lifeguard had gone home due to the weather. It was no problem they called him back in and despite having been called back in he was perfectly happy and friendly.
The facilities mean it is not cheap but its a great site sitting between the very big sites, and the Camping and Caravan club style operation.

Another Shorefield site, not stayed here for a few years but was where we bought our first caravan although they dont usually sell them.
Its a more basic site than Merley Court, no bar/cafe, no pool and a smaller shop. You can use the leisure facilities at their Shorefield Mobile home site which is a few minutes drive away. It has indoor and outdoor pools, pub etc.
Site has both hard standing and grass pitches, 2 toilet blocks. As with Merley Court its run in a relaxed way with the staff being helpful and friendly.

Normans Bay, Pevensey nr Eastbourne - a Camping and Caravan Club Site
Fairly standard C&CC site with their standard facilities. The pebbled beach is on the opposite site of the road to the campsite, and the road is a minor road with little traffic. On the other site of the site is a railway line but the trains are not intrusive. Its a long narrowish site with 3 toilet blocks, 2 are at one end so if the one at the other is shut its a fair hike to the alternative.
Have been to this site a number of times as its only 30 minutes from home, although didn't go last year. Hopefully the site warden has changed as last time we went the one they had was a bit of a jobsworth, shut the toilet blocks the moment the numbers on site meant he no longer need 2 open etc. Did complain to C&CC and understand from others he is no longer at this site.
Going back to the site in August, it does what it says on the tin.

Sandringham nr Kings Lynn, Norfolk - Another Camping and Caravan Club Site (a Caravan Club site nearby)
The site is on the Queens estate at Sandringham. Its a standard although large C&CC site with their standard facilities and a variety of pitch types. Its surrounded by trees with some shaded pitches. 3 toilet blocks I seem to recall. Wife wasn't keen on the site for unknown reasons so not going back, seemed to me it did what it says.

West Runton, Nr Cromer, Norfolk - Another Camping and Caravan CLub Site
The site is nestled between what must be the only only hills in Norfolk, and as a result TV and mobile phone reception is not good. Its accessed by a narrow gravelled road which is single track with passing places. 2 caravans meeting could be interesting.
Has the basic C&CC site facilities with 2 shower blocks, and a variety of pitch types. Been here a number of times and like it.

Stowford Farm Meadows, near Ilfracombe, North Devon
Just back from this large site set in the rolling north Devon hills to the south east of Ilfracombe. Although the site is huge it is broken up in to a number of camping fields each with its own facilities block which gives it a smaller feel. The facilities blocks were excellent plenty of showers and toilets (never saw a queue) and kept clean, the only issue being grass cuttings coming in on users feet. Hot water is provided bu biomass boilers and very successfully there was always hot water when I was in the blocks.
The site has an indoor swimming pool (charged at £1.60 a use), its a basic pool, rectangular probably 20m long but did the job. There's a couple of bars on site and a restaurant and its own chippy (latter was good didnt try the former). Excellent shop selling "baked on the premises" bread and croissants in the same way most stuff is baked on the premises these days. The site also has a caravan sales area, and a good accessories and parts shop and a serving and workshop facilities.
There were a number of free entertainments laid on, kids discos, magicians, soft play etc, and a sheepdog and falconry display. Exmoor Zoo did a show as well. Many of these shows were free.
As larger sites go it was excellent.

Been a few times and always found it a friendly and happy site with well maintained grass (ideal when camping) and superb clean washing facilities that are more like a hotel.
Has on-site fishing and a golf course.

Gent - Camping Blaarmeersen: a surprisingly pleasant municipal site a bus ride away from the centre of Gent. Facilities include a swimming lake, bar/ restaurant, frituur, playgrounds, car wash area(!) and electric pitches. https://stad.gent/blaarmeersen
Suffolk - Leiston
Applefields - stayed here this week, a small site on the edge of the town. £15 a night additional 50p per shower (works via honesty box). Its a lovely site, flat probably about 20 pitches, but only us and one other for much of the week. Showers very pleasant, there's a lounge area for poor weather.

It's Adult only so if you want a break from the kids it peaceful and beautiful situation, also very dog friendly with some pitches having dog pens. The whole place is immaculate and the shower block is like a hotel , one of the best sites we have come across .

The site is operated by Shorefield who have a number of touring and mobile home sites in Hampshire/Dorset. The site has a handful of mobile homes on the edge of it, accesses from a different place to the touring site.
The site offers a range of pitches from full hardstanding (why you'd camp there I have no idea sees akin to camping in a car park!), to grass. I think most have electric hook-up. There are 2 toilet blocks, an outdoor pool, shop, small bar/cafe.
We have been to this site on a number of occasions, as part of the Shorefield sites you can use the leisure facilities at there Oakdene site down the road although they do get extremely busy. The site is nicely segretgated, and run in a fairly relaxed manner, the staff have always been friendly and helpful and the toilet blocks are kept clean. Occasional queues for showers, but nothing extreme. The shop is reasonable offering newspapers, fresh croissants, the essentials, small range of camping essentials. For more camping essentials theres a camping shop almost next door and a caravan dealer just down the road. The swimming pool is smallish but perfectly adequate and has a small bar/cafe adjacent. Not really used the bar/cafe but it is small so no issues with noise etc. On staff helfulness daughter decided one wet day she wanted a swim, but the lifeguard had gone home due to the weather. It was no problem they called him back in and despite having been called back in he was perfectly happy and friendly.
The facilities mean it is not cheap but its a great site sitting between the very big sites, and the Camping and Caravan club style operation.

Another Shorefield site, not stayed here for a few years but was where we bought our first caravan although they dont usually sell them.
Its a more basic site than Merley Court, no bar/cafe, no pool and a smaller shop. You can use the leisure facilities at their Shorefield Mobile home site which is a few minutes drive away. It has indoor and outdoor pools, pub etc.
Site has both hard standing and grass pitches, 2 toilet blocks. As with Merley Court its run in a relaxed way with the staff being helpful and friendly.

Normans Bay, Pevensey nr Eastbourne - a Camping and Caravan Club Site
Fairly standard C&CC site with their standard facilities. The pebbled beach is on the opposite site of the road to the campsite, and the road is a minor road with little traffic. On the other site of the site is a railway line but the trains are not intrusive. Its a long narrowish site with 3 toilet blocks, 2 are at one end so if the one at the other is shut its a fair hike to the alternative.
Have been to this site a number of times as its only 30 minutes from home, although didn't go last year. Hopefully the site warden has changed as last time we went the one they had was a bit of a jobsworth, shut the toilet blocks the moment the numbers on site meant he no longer need 2 open etc. Did complain to C&CC and understand from others he is no longer at this site.
Going back to the site in August, it does what it says on the tin.

Sandringham nr Kings Lynn, Norfolk - Another Camping and Caravan Club Site (a Caravan Club site nearby)
The site is on the Queens estate at Sandringham. Its a standard although large C&CC site with their standard facilities and a variety of pitch types. Its surrounded by trees with some shaded pitches. 3 toilet blocks I seem to recall. Wife wasn't keen on the site for unknown reasons so not going back, seemed to me it did what it says.

West Runton, Nr Cromer, Norfolk - Another Camping and Caravan CLub Site
The site is nestled between what must be the only only hills in Norfolk, and as a result TV and mobile phone reception is not good. Its accessed by a narrow gravelled road which is single track with passing places. 2 caravans meeting could be interesting.
Has the basic C&CC site facilities with 2 shower blocks, and a variety of pitch types. Been here a number of times and like it.

Stowford Farm Meadows, near Ilfracombe, North Devon
Just back from this large site set in the rolling north Devon hills to the south east of Ilfracombe. Although the site is huge it is broken up in to a number of camping fields each with its own facilities block which gives it a smaller feel. The facilities blocks were excellent plenty of showers and toilets (never saw a queue) and kept clean, the only issue being grass cuttings coming in on users feet. Hot water is provided bu biomass boilers and very successfully there was always hot water when I was in the blocks.
The site has an indoor swimming pool (charged at £1.60 a use), its a basic pool, rectangular probably 20m long but did the job. There's a couple of bars on site and a restaurant and its own chippy (latter was good didnt try the former). Excellent shop selling "baked on the premises" bread and croissants in the same way most stuff is baked on the premises these days. The site also has a caravan sales area, and a good accessories and parts shop and a serving and workshop facilities.
There were a number of free entertainments laid on, kids discos, magicians, soft play etc, and a sheepdog and falconry display. Exmoor Zoo did a show as well. Many of these shows were free.
As larger sites go it was excellent.

Been a few times and always found it a friendly and happy site with well maintained grass (ideal when camping) and superb clean washing facilities that are more like a hotel.
Has on-site fishing and a golf course.

Gent - Camping Blaarmeersen: a surprisingly pleasant municipal site a bus ride away from the centre of Gent. Facilities include a swimming lake, bar/ restaurant, frituur, playgrounds, car wash area(!) and electric pitches. https://stad.gent/blaarmeersen
Suffolk - Leiston
Applefields - stayed here this week, a small site on the edge of the town. £15 a night additional 50p per shower (works via honesty box). Its a lovely site, flat probably about 20 pitches, but only us and one other for much of the week. Showers very pleasant, there's a lounge area for poor weather.
