I’m a big fan of Trucks, so this is no anti Truck post.

However for 2 consecutive weeks whilst travelling on the M6, I’ve been blinded (eyes actually hurt for hours) by the flashing of light bars (never seen such enormous bright lights) on truck cab roofs on the opposite side of the carriageway.

What on earth possesses people to fit such things that I thought would be illegal as they are downright dangerous, not to mention being totally anti social.

Has anyone else had such similar experiences or know the legalities regarding these lights.

Not blinded then?

I have nothing to add other than perhaps an eye test or brain scan is in order?

Having been behind one that appeared to have a searchlight attached to the front, it makes negotiating narrow country roads much easier at night.

Trucks would have to be aware of things like tree branches that just don’t affect lower vehicles, if the lights are at bumper level you can’t see the high stuff.

Pretty common up here in Northern Scotland and allows running at speed on rural roads at night while still getting enough warning of deer etc that might be lurking in the darkness.

I've got a long range one from Lazer waiting to go onto one of our cars. I've always had big spots on my Land Cruiser - it really makes a huge difference and is so much more relaxing having loads of light.

LEDs are sold on how wonderfully powerful they are…torches as the same, seems the cheap stuff claims are huge and people just think brightest is best… which it is apart from dazzling people (I suspect we will see more enforcement)

It's all a part of the truck community, modifying the units to their taste.
Seems to be loads of lights, bull bar and polished wheels and tanks.
I think they look smart but I don't understand the polishing of tanks at night.
Lucky if my truck gets a jet wash every couple of months.

Near Scotland on successive weeks on the M6 is when I’ve been blinded by the flashing of these lights. I’m sure having such lights is completely unnecessary like a lot of boy racer car add ons.

You are 100% correct Rob . Mostly used for intimidating law abiding motorists attempting to stick to the speed limit in road works . That’s my experience of these idiots

Doesn't it cause a massive difficulty, on main roads in particluar, when they meet someone coming the other way and have to dip these lights?
It'd be like going from bright sunshine in summer into a small, dark tunnel.

And lets be honest a lot of truck drivers appear to be of an age where night vision isn't the best (I'm the same at 55, I'm aware I can't see anything like as well as I could when I was younger).
