Wondering if anyone can save me some initial grubbying of hands...

I have a campervan based upon an MY23 MAN TGE (MWB). See below:

I've noticed that many other MWB vans have inbuilt side markers in the side protection panel trim. Before I go routing around behind mine, does anyone know if the loom for the side markers would already be in situ? If so, I'll set about buying new panels from MAN but if not, then I'm not going to go about messing with adding wiring looms and I'll stay as is.

TIA

My MWB crafter didn't come with any wiring for the lights

No loom in place. I have one of each at the moment. Both brand new.

Going to be quite expensive to retrofit all six.

£85 for each front trim, £50 for each centre trim, £60 for each rear trim, £20 for each marker light, plus the looms. So £510 for the plastics and lights. If I get time, I’ll have a look and see what’s on the back of the lights. Unless you can take yours out and see if there’s a loom there. Might just need running through, although I doubt there will be.

Sure they are lights and not just orange reflectors?

See pic/post above. They are marker lights, not reflectors.

Fine, just checking as side marker lights in orange are only required above a set wieght/length presumably?

Seem to remember that I had to check side marker lights on LGV's when working but those on my Boxer van/camper are, I think, a stick on/add on from the previous owner.

Just double checked. They only come on the TGE when ordered with either of the following packages.

So not a mandatory requirement?

Reflectors could do the job for the OP at a fraction of the cost?

I think they’re only mandatory if the vehicle is over 6m long.

I have over 400 new Sprinters here at the moment. All MWB vans and they have them fitted. Factory rear camera so must be part of an option pack on Mercedes too.

Thanks all for your help on this. It's really strange how some vans have it and others not. I perhaps can buy into the fact I don't have one of the packs but I've seen other vans which I don't think would have either, which have the side markers included. Heyho.

I'm going to get under the rear of the van this weekend and see what's going on as far as loom is concerned. Looks very much from the pics above that there won't be anything there. I've got my tame Auto Electrician mate coming this morning to fit a dashcam in the Disco so I may get him to take a look at what would be involved to retrofit a loom.

Thanks for all the help. I'll keep this updated if I get any further with it / pull the trigger on the upgrade.

So an update quicker than I anticipated....

As it happens, my Auto Electrician who does a lot of work for Essex Police says he's worked on Crafters and side markers. It turns out that it was an absolute pain in the backside to do in an empty van pre-fit-out, let alone a camper so he's done a mixture of politely decline, advise against and priced accordingly (£2k labour) so as to incentivise against not doing it.

TBH I was only ever going to do it if it was a relatively straightforward plug & play job; don't like the idea of butchering my beloved camper. But good to hear from someone who's done it.

I looked earlier. No loom there. Means getting it round and through the doors too.

Sides ones are easy as they just run from the bottom and join into the main loom. But it’s a big job. It’d be inclined to get some really slim/flush fit amber flashers (set to glow) and wire them to the side lights. These would be quite easy to fit if you didn’t do the front doors.
