Hi Al.

First time in this forum and after some advice. Apologies if this isn't the best section to post. I'm sure it will get moved if I'm in the wrong place.

A close friend of mine is a self employed sparky and he has a Hyundai van that's suffered a balance shaft seizure and now needs either a replacement engine fitting or a rebuild.

They've asked me for advice where to take it but I'm used to rebuilding jap cars not vans.

Really they'd be best going to a van/commercial specialist. Could anyone recommend a trustworthy garage in the Midlands. My friend is based in Wolverhampton.

Thanks in advance

I think your friend has to do the figures namely Is there sufficient value in the van before he lays out big money . Rebuilds can be fraught with difficulty and more often than not a replacement engine followed by a swift exit from Ownership is the best course of action . Obviously don't mention the replacement engine when you sell because nobody ever checks and inevitably it puts off perspective purchasers . Please don't listen to anyone telling you otherwise because if your friend is in Business its all about the money in cases such as the one he now finds himself in

Thanks. It's what I was thinking too. But nice to hear from someone else and a very pragmatic approach. Cheers

Unless its relativly new then sell it as spares, by the time you have got an engine, put it in swapped bits over he's going to be around 6k into it.
