That axle layout is still in-play for some trucks in Japan.

They were a popular chassis for BBC Outside Broadcast vehicles as a lot of the technical equipment was located at the front & the double axle helped with weightloading. This is a Type 5 but the Type 6 was also built on a Chinese Six chassis.

I drove a Chinese made truck (in China, weirdly) and I was surprised and pleased how well it drove. Fit and finish were as good as the Scanias I’ve driven and better than the Dafs, although that’s not hard!

The closest I've got is a twin steer Scania tractor unit but suspect very different. Drove an old FL7 8 wheeler which was bloody hard work.
