Evening all, maybe somebody has the answer to this one ...

Just interested why HGV's come up as "No details held by DVLA"

Is it because they are inspected by DVSA & it's not electronic like a car MOT ?

Does this mean that the ANPR vehicles would not get a "ping" for an expired test vehicle ?

All other info (tax, insurance) seems to show ok.

???

I expect so. 'Normal' MoT testing stations you see all over the place update the MoT database almost immediately, but of course that would only be for motorcycles, cars and light vans (classes 1 to 4). Anything else is tested at different places.

I guess that must be the reason, I know they used to all go to ministry centres for test but now I think the DVSA inspectors use private garages (maybe have that wrong, I have been away from it for years).

Really !! That's interesting because surely a 7.5t would be tested the same as any other HGV by DVSA inspectors ??

I can look up my 7.5t but it’s a horse lorry so not an HGV

No 7.5t is a HGV is it, just a standard licence pre 96 ot 97 whatever it was.

Even a lorry taxed as a "private HGV" doesn't show on the MOT database - unless I am missing something.

Does your horsebox 7.5t still get tested at an authorised HGV testing station by DVSA inspectors ??

I believe it's because of the taxation class of vehicle. 7.5t and under and classed as private and light goods, the same as cars.

Yes, it goes to hgv dvsa testing station. I thought 7.5t could be HGV which is why it has a tachometer (that I don’t need to use) and a speed limiter (which I could remove)? I have a dvsa plate displayed in the cab.

I can drive my 7.5t because I have the grandfather licence pre whatever date it was.

As I read it anything over 3.5 can be HGV

Is 7.5 tonne classed as HGV?

You need to have a C1 Category licence to drive a 7.5-tonne lorry. This hgv licence is not the same as a Category B car licence, however, you might be able to get a C1 licence automatically if you have a normal car licence, depending upon the date that you got

Indeed.
Think it's a problem with your vehicle's info on the database rather than all HGVs.

Yes a 7.5t is a HGV, doesn't matter what you call it, horse box, race truck whatever.

I had to do C1 to drive mine.

Perhaps I’ve misunderstood what you’re trying to do but excluding any anomalies, HGV mot status can be looked up - I’ve just checked several that we look after.

Not misunderstood at all, I can't get MOT details for any HGV I have tried to lookup, current running vehicles or old "classics".

Ah! got it, there is a .gov site that will check them: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

This one brings up no mot results on the vehicle-enquiry-service: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status

Problem solved, thanks smile
