Bit of a long story and i am talking about a 7.5t lorry here but starting to drive me insane.

I bought a lorry.

I changed the reg on it to a business related plate and to hide age.

at this time i could tax it.

mot needed doing so did that.

Passed mot but the bloke told me i need a new 'plate'

I learnt this is the 'plate' inside the cab which says what the weight etc is.

Anyway. when i come to tax it i can't.

I am told this is because the plate in the cab shows a different reg to the mot.

So i go through the hoops of changing the plate in the cab and am told everything will update so i can tax it.

Nope.

Several phone calls, emails and still unable to.

Online i get a message asking to confirm that the vehicle is mot exempt, which it isn't so i click no and then it throws me out.

Today i received the first fine. I am still using the vehicle yes but how am i meant to work? i have repeatedly tried to tax it.

I notice now though that the .gov site does show an mot for the vehicle. so my plan now is to go back to post office (they refused to tax before as the reg on mot is different to log book) but not take the mot certificate and hope they can just check online.

Someone at dvsa also said they can tax it off the vin.

Any ideas? obviously my biggest fear is they seize it roadside with a digger on the back and all my equipment which will make life even harder.

I have taxed many trucks over the years by selecting the mot exempt option. We have current mots at the time but sometimes the system won’t let me tax them.

I’ve not ever heard from anyone by picking this option.

Trucks & registration plate changes can be awkward,

Have you filled in a VTG10?

The problem is despite both being gov bodies the DVLA & DVSA don’t actually communicate with each other,
So the DVLA now don’t recognise the old reg for RFL & DVSA don’t recognise the new reg for MOT /plating

Personally I would send the VTG10 form in (if you haven’t already) & if you need to use it before you get your new VTG6 plate tick the MOT exemption box & tax it,

Yes, me too with no issue.

Our local lane didn't used to have a direct internet connection and it took some days for the database to update.
