HGV medical renewal
Discussion
My HGV license is soon to expire, I'm 55 and will need a medical, haven't driven anything over 7.5 tonnes for about 15 years and unlikely/don't want to. But do need to keep my 7.5 entitlement. I passed my car test in 1984 so have grandfather rights on that? Or do I need a medical? My license says it's valid until 2037, thanks in advance for any advice.
Just to add I don't think a medical would be a problem, just don't want the expense /hassle etc.

It does, but it's the way the renewal just refers to lorry and bus no mention of classes.
I think you'll need to do the medical, I had a 7.5t entitlement from my car test and passed my (then class 1) 4 years later. I needed a medial last year when I turned 50, suspect you will too at 55.R0G said:
pre 1997 LGV C1 will not need a D4 medical until age 70
Other LGV categories gained by passing a LGV test including the hidden C1 covered by the C can be gained back by passing a D4 medical in the future (no time limit) if they are left to lapse
This is better advice than mine.Other LGV categories gained by passing a LGV test including the hidden C1 covered by the C can be gained back by passing a D4 medical in the future (no time limit) if they are left to lapse
