Have you ever encountered anything like this?
It's an old 7.5t horsebox so definitely not MOT exempt.
It's taxed so I'm assuming it had to have an MOT last year.

I think it would need a ministry test (edited. 'annual test') as over 3.5T (different to an MOT) and those records wouldn't be held on that database. With my 7.5T lorry it always had to go to a VOSA test site

Is it because lorries are "plated" rather than MOT'd? Never owned a lorry but I think the annual testing is completely different to an MOT.

Where does one check the "plate" status? I can't seem to find it online.
Is it the same like with normal cars that you're ok to be driving to the most station for a booked test, without one?

As has been said HGVs have an annual test carried out by DVSA. You will need to contact them for any information.
You’ll need to book an appointment but there is a huge backlog at the minute. HGV tests are different to the MOT. You will have to pay the full price and any dangerous fails on brakes, steering etc will result in a prohibition notice meaning the vehicle can’t be driven away. HGV repairers offer a service where they inspect, wash and do any repairs on the vehicle before presenting it for test. All moot points of course if you are able to do this yourself.

Yes as said hgv is different & more expensive test to cars & vans it should still come up on the mot search though, my hgvs do, however not on all gov checkers, this one does hgv but still no good for your reg as I checked, yes it appears it might have been run as exempt somehow.

Has it always been a horse box or has it been recently re-bodied? Unlikely given its age but you never know???

Trucks are odd but you can normally go check mot history and find it that way (I check lots of mot dates on hgv for work).
Weirdly though yours is not showing. Has it come off a private plate recently?

No idea, I just really don't know how to check it. I called few HGV testing stations and they told me to just check it online. DVSA helpline only seems to deal with training, at least I couldn't find a test connection.

Pet hate of mine this!

All lorries/HGVs/Vehicles >3.5t have to have a MOT test, same principle as any car.

The term "Plate/Plating" is a red herring. There is a DOT "Plating" certificate, usually displayed in the cab on passengers door card that tells the GVW that the vehicle is "Plated" at - e.g. 5t, 7.5t., 18t and so on giving axle weights too.

Adverts carrying the phrase 12 months plate are incorrect. It is 12 months MOT, like any car or van.

Rant over! nerd
