Discussion
Undertake the 35 hrs of dcpc nonsense & get that card, Google providers, then with dvla apply for a digital tachograph card,

Does it have to be 35 hours though?
As op has never had a CPC before won't it just be the initial CPC? One classroom theory type and one practical?
Tacho card you just apply for online and it'll come in the post in a week or two.
There is an option to do the 2 tests Mods 2 + 4 but there are hoops to go through to do thatAs op has never had a CPC before won't it just be the initial CPC? One classroom theory type and one practical?

Those with pre 97 licences are in the periodic 35 hour system for LGV as they have grandfather rights with the LGV C1 on the licence
Many thanks folks!
So does that mean I’ve got to do 35 hours right now, or does the clock start from zero and I can do the 35 hours over the next five years?
Also, if I were to go for C (which I’m seriously considering), does my C1 entitlement still put me in the five-year system?

I hadn’t considered that possibility. So does that mean I’ve got to do 35 hours right now, or does the clock start from zero and I can do the 35 hours over the next five years?

You need a 5 year DQC before you can drive LGVs commerciallySo does that mean I’ve got to do 35 hours right now, or does the clock start from zero and I can do the 35 hours over the next five years?

You need the 35 hours now if wanting to use your current C1 commercially
When doing C ask your training school if they have the C course approved for a few of those 35 hours
After getting your first DQC you then have 5 years to get the next 35 hours
I will mention it Mike, as no one else has. Whether you need a DCPC depends on what you are doing. If all you are doing is being a driver, then you probably will; but if you’re only driving the vehicle to transport equipment to where you work, for example, then you won’t.
You might be surprised what is beyond the scope of tachograph and DCPC requirements. Until recently, you could drive a 40+ tonne eight wheel HGV on the road without any cards, or even an HGV licence!
