Ford experiencing long delays with its Turkey (transit, transit custom & transit courier) and Spanish (transit connect) factories mainly due to semi conductor shortages.

Heard of a bloke who ordered 4x Transit connects 3 weeks ago with an expected delivery date of ‘June 2021’ has gone back to ‘September 2021’.

What I don’t understand is Ford make more money from its commercial vehicles than most others, so why are they not taking priority?

Picked my new van up yesterday, but overhead a sales guy on the phone quoting October as the soonest delivery date for a van, and March for a Transit tipper!

VW Transporters have 6+ month delays too, unless you get lucky on the spec.

Transit customs are meant to be the hardest to source, if you really want one then don’t get fussy on colour or spec, settle for whatever’s left in stock

I posted in another thread last week. Kocaeli is shutting for 2 months (minimum). We are waiting for 300 Customs that should have arrived 6 weeks ago.

On the positive side, the lease companies will be getting extra payments on short term extensions for existing vans smile

Reasonable numbers of pre-reg available if you know where to look but as you say don't be too fussy.

I’m a manager for a national vehicle hire company. We literally can’t get them quick enough, especially bigger stuff and the chassis cabs.
We do a lot for RM and parcel delivery companies over Christmas and they’ve still got the vans four months later.

The industry is suffering long lead times but Ford and Fiat are worst hit, both are shutting production for up to 8 weeks.
The upside is you may decide to order something else that turns out to be more reliable!

Because cars are more profitable, all resources are being diverted into car production.

I sell Renault cars and vans, lead times for Trafic and Master are October/November, Trafic Sport and Black Edition cannot be ordered.

Used van pricing is going through the roof, 4 year old Trafic with circa 80k on the clock are up for more than you could get a new equivalent spec new one for.

Was chatting to a guy who works for Scania, he said a chassis would normally be 2-3 month lead, they are currently quoting 12m.

I thought about ordering a new Hilux Double Cab recently and the dealer reckoned it would be well into next year before I could expect to see delivery.

Apparently a combination of huge demand and some supply delays.

Ford don't make the ECUs and chip's themselves so are at the mercy of manufacturers are car makers sent at the top priority list as far as the chip makers are concerned

And they say too much vertical integration is a bad thing. Once upon a time Ford owned the rubber plantation for the tyres.

You should be getting them back end of June, but they will be needed again in November.

I'm affected too, my customs delayed. I asked the supplier and got sent this back.

As you may be aware, global supply of semi conductors has been heavily impacted by the Global pandemic and then further by a recent fire in a key supplier in Japan. Over the past few months we have been able to protect our Commercial Vehicle production in Kocaeli, Turkey whilst suffering production cuts within our Passenger Car business. However, the latest news from our suppliers has meant that we were left with no option but to cease production of our Transit and Transit Custom models from April 19th to June 13th.

We understand that this news is extremely disappointing and will add a significant delay to your orders. We are working with our Dealers to ensure that they get timely and accurate information about revised production and delivery dates to enable them to keep you informed.

In the meantime, please accept my apologies for this unforeseen delay to your orders and confirm my commitment that we will do all in our power to build out our customer orders as soon as production recommences. We will write to you again once we have further clarity on the situation in order to provide you with the certainty you require to plan your business.

Directional lead times for new factory orders on Commercial Vehicles and Passenger Vehicles are shown below.

COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

Model Factory Order Delivery Timings
Fiesta Van Sep / Oct 21
Ranger Oct / Nov 21
Transit Courier Nov / Dec 21

Why end of june ?

Royal Mail aren't moving back to van shares so need more hire vans , combine that with the incoming revisions that will have more parcel deliveries so need more bigger vans .

We've got so many hire vans here we're being asked to take vans home overnight as there's not enough room in the yard to park them all up

Re the transits , are the other companies having similar problems ?

The sole reason royal mail have switched to peugeot is because they'd shut down a production line to bang out post vans whereas ford would just add us to the list like anyone else..
