As above, never bought a van before. I assume the same things apply to buying a van as they do for a car.

We only want it for a couple of months and if/when our new starter (electrician) works out we'll get a leased new one.

Which ones should I avoid/go for, if any? Diesel?

I'm wondering if we can just rent one for now....

I've had my VW Caddy since 2007. It's still going strong. 1.9 diesel.

Rent.

Used market v strong so you could buy trouble at 5k.

As for make when you lease - I'd head Japanese for warranty.

See if you can get a short term lease from the same provider that will do the long term lease if your man works out.

As for which one, if it's a larger van then there's a reason why there's so many Mercedes Sprinters around.

Smaller vans, take your pick from the usual players - much of a muchness. For the long term lease, involve the guy who's going to drive it all day.

Don’t think there is any Japanese vans imported anymore even the Nissan nv200 is built in Europe with a Renault engine ..

I'd say long term rental in your case. Buying used you could end up with a lemon and have two months worth of hassle. At least a rental will be relatively new and if there's any problems they won't be yours to solve.

Going to go for long term rental up to 3 months. About £300+VAT p/m for a nice Peugeot small van. Lease one after that.
