checking a 7.5t tipper out.
Discussion
I have finally decided to get a 7.5t tipper. i dont have the licence or o licence but what keeps happening is every month i think 'ill sort that next week' (edit, i have just applied for the o licence, paid for it and uploaded relevant stuff except the newspaper advert which currently i dont know how to do )
of course after about 18mths i haven't done it. i did do the o licence and got to payment stage but ended up leaving it as covid hit and at that time i thought id be out of work.
So by owning it and it costing money sitting there i will have no choice but to do the test etc.
i will have it on laid up cover at the location of the soon to be o licence. speaking to vehicle driving test people they say that i 'should' get passed by june/july with current situation. So should tie in ok with waiting for o licence.
Anyway, i have found one, its in halifax which is so so far away from me its an 8hr round trip which i was going to do tomorrow. until i realised i dont really know what im looking at
Or can anyone recommend someone to have a look? i really dont want to drive 8hrs just hope it doesnt go as they are all like hotcakes at the minute especially one like this.
any tips? this is the truck. sounds perfect! ex council, its a 190. low miles, looks very tidy, manuel and not auto (heard a lot of horror stories and that they are horrible anyway).

do you know the place? seems to have alright reviews online.
Im thinking of just asking for a video tour and just buying it. id like to think that council owned with a recent mot it should be ok for general stuff. gearbox is not an auto so should be ok......i suppose not a lot else a full inspection might tell me.

Northowram is a nice village, if it was in Keighley if be saying no.
It's probably from a Scottish council going by number plate, he had two of them.
Try to find out which council and speak to workshop. Look like sold at end of contract with an having too so not sold as cast

Surely even the most penny pinching of councils wouldn't use that for winter maintenance? It certainly wouldn't be used here in Aberdeenshire - it would be a liability and spend all it's time stuck!
The roads are salted 8 months of the year though and it does mean things are noticeably rustier than down south. Should be pretty obvious if it's an issue with a look underneath.

Thankyou ill contact the seller today and have a chat about it, hoping the guy above can have a quick look round it too. The roads are salted 8 months of the year though and it does mean things are noticeably rustier than down south. Should be pretty obvious if it's an issue with a look underneath.
Apart from rust maybe the dpf is bad but i suppose i wouldn't know that for a while. I know on these and canters they can be problematic.
I also assume it will have some kind of warranty. The location of its storage is a place which works on hgv's so i can get him to fully check it once its here. bit arse about face but not much else i could do really.
Have you ever driven one of these? They are bloody awful, cramped cab, terrible driving position it would be my last choice for a 7.5t truck
I had the misfortune of picking one up and loading it for export last year, couldn’t get in and out of it without bumping my head and I’m under 6ft

Well pistonheads and its decent people strike again! 2 people have very very kindly offered to go and have a look. Andy above knows what he's looking at so what a god send
And regarding driving them, i have had a few mitsubishi canter 3.5t and i have briefly driven an isuzu 3.5t so i know they aren't the most relaxed cruisers out there
But like andy says its all local stuff, the job ive been at today i can actually see from my upstairs window we are generally very local.
Its the payload i want! Should be 4t or very close to it which is huge compared to all the 'proper' 7.5t vehicles. Also they are pretty small and not much bigger than a 3.5t so ideal for the residential streets we work down

As above, fk the driving position etc. For payload, they're pretty good. And generally quite good chassis-wise... which we'll see about Wednesday. Anyway, good excuse to go the long way round over to the dark side.
haha! i can only imagine the roads up there, pretty bloody st round here now, full of potholes, police and traffic m3jappa said:
