I've gone online to book my LGV theory tests, and it's given me options to book the multiple choice and hazard perception, but not the CPC. It says on the website "If the test you require is not available to book, please email customercare@pearson.com". I did this about 2.5 weeks ago but haven't had a response.

Anyone know how I can go about booking the CPC? Apparently I can't start any practical without it. There aren't any grandfather rights associated with the CPC are there? I passed my original test in 1977 biggrin which means I can drive up to 7.5t anyway, but I wasn't aware of any CPC exemption?

I'm doing this as a hobby/bucket list thing, and then to help out a mate with a fleet, in case anyone's wondering why an old fart is going down this route.

The CPC is 4 parts, Theory, Case Studies, Practical Driving and Safety Demonstrations (this is optional if you're not getting the licence for work)

Yes, it's the first two which I want to book but gov.uk doesn't give me the option to do so, not at all, not even at a different test centre.

Mod 1a = basic theory
Mod 1b = HPT
Mod 2 = CPC theory
Mod 3 = practical road drive/reverse
Mod 4 = CPC practical

Which of those are you trying to book?

Do you have a pre 1997 car licence?

Trying to book Mod 2 above. Yes, I got my licence in 1977, 6 weeks after my 17th birthday.

Is it the case then that you can't book Mod 2 until you have Mod 1a/1b?

Because you already have pre 97 LGV C1 on your licence then you have the option of either doing Mods 2 + 4 or 35 hours of periodic attendance training
To do Mods 2 + 4 you need to contact DVSA/DVLA to make a special provision
You can do 35 hours periodic now before mods 1 + 3 which will allow you to drive LGV C1 commercially
Doing 35 hours covers you for all LGV categories
35 hours can also be done online at the moment - you attend by sitting in front of a video link

If you can find an approved LGV trainer who has C training approved for DCPC hours then doing that course can get you 14 hours if doing 1 to 1 or 28 hours if doing 2 to 1 training over a 5 day course

The trucknetuk site has much more info on all this

^^^That's really helpful, thanks R0G, I have been asking all over the place to find out why I couldn't book. Thanks for the trucknet suggestion too. Much appreciated.
