Anyone give me an estimate for a road freight quote?
Discussion
Hi all,
I may need a palletised mezzanine floor bringing from Huddersfield to Nottingham.
Approx dimensions of the pallet 6m x 1m x 1m (it's basically a bundle of RSJ's and purlins).
I have a forklift at this end.
Is this a £200 job? A £500 job? I have no idea what sort of ballpark I'm in.
Many thanks

Considering a typical pallet is 1mx1.2m and costs on average £100 in theory you'd be looking at £500 or more BUT this isn't something you can send in a pallet network so would have to be transported A to B which would be a lot more for dedicated transport. You will have to ring round a few local hauliers and see whether it's something they would entertain.
This is what I do for a living. When you say palletised, is it on separate pallets, or one indivisible item 6x1x1m?
Either way, it's 6 pallet spaces so from Huddersfield to Nottingham, you're looking at somewhere in the region of £250-£350ish. If it's palletised, then you could send via a pallet network. Pallex, Palletways, UPN etc. They'll charge roughly 40-50 per pallet & add on charges for timed delivery & often distinguish between quarter, ha;f & full pallets.
If it's one big piece, then you'll need a dedicated vehicle with either a Hiab or Moffat to unload if there's no equipment on site. It would pay to ring round local hauliers or if you're cute. Nottingham hauliers (back loads attract lower rates) Easiest way probably your local firms, but for a one off job, they won't do you any favours on the rate.
£500 is a rip off for that.

Thankyou gents. To be specific it's two 6 metre RSJ beams and eleven 5 metre purlin beams. So there's no way it can be shorter than 6 metres, or split onto multiple pallets. In other words it's a bundle of girders balanced on a pallet. ~6 metres long and roughly a metre high and deep.
When bolted together it'll make a 6m x 5m mezzanine floor
I am totally clueless with logistics but I imagine it would have to come on some kind of curtain-sided lorry. £250-£350 I could happily live with.

Right, since it's one long piece for the purposes of this conversation and you have no means of unloading it, you'll need a vehicle equipped accordingly. If it were me. If you're looking locally, off the top of my head, Senco Logistics run curtain side four wheelers with Moffat forklifts which would work. Brownridge or Fawsley transport in Leeds too.
Google Moffat haulage Yorkshire or Hiab Yorkshire & you'll find a fair few who'll quote it.
Unfortunately, I do industrial quantities of pallets from factory to warehouse, so it's not something I would be interested in but should be easy enough to organise. Good luck with it, Also, no need for a curtain side per se, a flat bed truck would be fine - any decent firm would rope & sheet it (cover with a tarpaulin) to keep the weather off.

Try Dan Punchard Transport in Derby. He has a website under the same name. Old school and has a vehicle for every occasion and does hiab and crane work as his core business. This would be his kind of job. He's well known on a big truck driver forum.

Or Seth Punchard http://www.sethpunchard.co.uk/https://www.danpunchard.co.uk/
This is what their family specialise in
Have you thought about renting a 7.5Te flatbed or dropsider? Legal on a C1 licence (except for hire and reward ).
I've seen daily rates from 200ish to over 400.
Most should be long enough to accommodate a 6m load.
Or try Shiply. They can be surprisingly economic, but their specialisation is smaller items and multi drops. Might be worth a call though.

The cap for anything has to be the day rate. I wouldnt entertain paying £500 for a load which took part of a day, when £500 buys you a full day.Gassing Station | Commercial Break | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
