Anyone got one?
My Transit Custom sport is three soon so I will be getting rid. I like the look of the new Vivaro and it’s cousins but they seem pricy. If I can’t get a good deal I might just go back to Renault and get a Traffic, there is a face lift model out now but it’s hardly any different, so will probably pick up pre reg Sport.

The new Trafic has a 2l engine and is available as an automatic in some models as well.

Why are you not getting another Transit Custom?

We are running the Toyota Proace (same as Vivaro/Dispatch/Expert) and out of 7 we have not had any problems in the first year of ownership, except for one, which had a clutch go in the first 5000 miles and then a belt brake another 500 miles later. They would not replace the clutch under warranty but did replace the belt, we are still arguing about who is paying for the clutch some 7 months on!

So would I recommend one, yes, but I would go with Toyota as they give a 5 year warranty as evreybody else is still only giving 3 years.

I never got on with the gearbox/clutch in my custom for some reason, I’ve also had an oil warning light on the dash for about two and half of the three years I’ve owned it, and multiple recalls. I am actually getting a new Citroen Dispatch Driver tomorrow on a 18 month contract hire, it seemed the cheapest and safest to try one.

Vauxhall has really come up trumps with their new owner.

They've got a free ride into a van with a fantastic heritage and have somehow glued the best-looking front onto it! I caught a glimpse of one the pother day, and the front end is positively Mercedes-like. The Citroen is the worst looking, IMO, but I really think the VX is a good looking van.

I agree it’s a nicer looking van, but at £50 per month more with a lot less spec I can live with the Citroen. The guy at Vauxhall was none too pleased with the deals available on the Citroen/ Peugeot compared to his.

That is a surprise. VXs are typically lower spec'd, so it's certainly a surprise that they're not competitive.

Recommend the Vauxhall Vivaro highly, drives just as well as the transit custom but benefits from more competitive PCP deals, slightly more secure (Custom security is shocking) and superior build quality (especially pant work) is far higher than the custom.

It was the shocking paint quality along with the complete ignorance from Ford regarding Custom security (lack of) that made me change from Ford after many years of loyalty.
Dealers response to shocking paint quality was ‘what do you expect from a van made in Turkey’.

I had the previous shape 15 plate Vivaro that was ok (think it was a rebadged Renault?) but this current shape based on the Peugeot/Citroen/Toyota is fantastic.

The dealer tells me there will be a Fiat version out soon which will be even cheaper, might go for that one as it’s only badge engineering and a bit of trim/spec that differs between the brands.

I’m also looking at a Vivaro, my transit custom is due back in a few months while it’s been good it’s probably a bit too big for my needs and more only the fuel consumption is pretty crap.

Do like the gadgets in the custom and it’s a decent drive so it will come down to lease prices I guess Vivaro claiming 20% better fuel consumption.

I’m very happy with my Dispatch, good to drive, and good spec, although I do miss the heated windscreen. Fuel economy is only about 10% better than the Custom, it’s well down on power on paper but feels just as swift tbh.

Heated windscreen is great and also the heated seats are a biggie for me as I work outside and can get soaked often.

Custom looks like it’s the best price on lease so will probably end up with another but will see what prices come out as.

I've been looking around at new Vans recently as I need to replace my 12 plate transit due to ulez. The transit custom seems quite a bit more pricey compared to the vivaro/traffic/talento. But I don't think I would be happy without the electric heated windscreen

I’ve not had a great deal of experience with vans, just hiring one about once a year, but I can’t understand why Transits sell so well. I find them uncomfortable to drive with an awful position of the pedals relative to steering. Also they are very noisy and slow . Renault Traffics are so much better in all respects.

well,

seems im not the only one wading through this decision. i know i want a 2.0l. i know in the vivaro ive seen the sportive for £165pcm+vat for a company lease which looks good but, other than that, finding prices on the citroen and pug has been more challenging. ive discounted toyota as their prices always seem higher.

The Citroen was a lot cheaper than the others when I was looking but it looks like Vauxhall are more competitive now. I pay £190+vat for my Dispatch driver on a 18 month contract.

Thank You

It’s a 17+3 contract. It was the same monthly as 23+3 so although I lose a bit because of the deposit it should work out cheaper as I’ll save on tyres and a service.
