I posted this yesterday in speed, plod and the law. But maybe it's better in here.
It may be of interest to anyone that hauls lightweight trailors into Europe.

Thanks for this, very useful and I was unaware... I assume you dont need to register if they are non commercial?
More grey areas for towing trailers!! I wonder how much the privilege will be?

"In just over a month you'll need to register your trailers, oh but there's no system to do it with yet"

Yes I was hoping to register one of mine straight away, but seems we have to wait till the system is created.

I get daily updates on all brexit related matters from the gouverment site. Most of it has no interest but a few pop up about haulage etc.

So my understanding is that the trailer will now have its own registration plate in the same way trailers do on the continent.... Will be fun explaining that when fuzz pull you over for having a trailer that has a reg that doesnt match the tow vehicle!!

No you will need both plates displayed & as that's not possible on many trailers - especially given the size of the new plate, then needs one each side on rear! Nuts.

Or as I plan to do, ignore the new reg size plate as it won't fit, & just stick the new plate made up in a regular size (although tricky as it's got an extra digit) in in place of the regular one when I cross the channel each wk.
