Can anyone confirm if my 2016 Peugeot Boxer 2.0hdi has a timing belt or a chain. I was sure I had read it has a chain prior to buying it. It has now covered over 100k and the garage who service it, an independent not main dealer, have said the cam belt (which I always though does the same job as as a timing chain) is due for change. I have failed to find the answer via google.

Look at the service schedule in the handbook.

Hi,

The handbook seems pretty generic and doesn’t detail a schedule for a cam belt change. Neither does it mention it in the service book, again very generic.

The reg is MH16 CFA

I’ll try loggin in to the Peugeot site, thanks for the link

Sorry bud I’m off work for a couple weeks now so can’t check, if it has the Ford engine like the Relay then it’s a chain.

I belive that emgine is a belt should be easy to tell

Normally engines have a plastic cover generally if its a belt and if its a chain the engine looks sealed with a metal cover

If I take the oil filler cap off I can immediately see a chain, is this not the timing chain?

Yes, that would be the timing chain.

I'm fairly sure the 2.0L 16V HDi has both a chain and a belt. A small chain connects the two cams, one of which is driven by a belt from the crank.

That would make Sense Mike, and explain why I seem to be getting conflicting information!
