I have a C licence and know a few people that own companies in an industry that may need equipment occasionally moving on a rigid, they have asked if I am available to do this and they would be paying me for my time.

I have a full time job so doing this would be on an add hoc basis. To keep it above board I need to pay tax/NI on my earnings, how is the best way to do this? Having a google around, it seems I can be a casual employee, but then do I tell HMRC and I pay the tax as PAYE?

Of course the easiest way would be to not pay the tax, on what is probably £1000 a year. This is my preferred option but i'm not sure HMRC will be very happy if I did that.

Some have mentioned they have set up a LTD company, employ themselves and invoice through the company, but isn't that opening a can of worms regarding CPC and insurance issues?

What is your full time job ? If it's not HGV driving do you have a drivers CPC and a Digi Tacho card ?
If you do go ahead and do the work the easy way is do it as a casual employee and then declare the work to HMRC .
Rumblings in the trade forums is that major changes are imminent regards to self employed or LTD .

Thanks, sounds simple, must be me over thinking.

I work in aviation, but I have both a tacho card and a CPC.

If it's only adhoc then insist on pound notes. If they want it through the books then tell them to forget it as it's not worth your time and hassle setting up properly for the occasional job.
