Lorry Drivers - are they all *****
Discussion
Most lorryists are good most of the time. But occasionally they do stupid things , taking the law into their own hands, might is right etc.
Parking on double yellows to get lunch is a particularly annoying thing, as is pulling out on roundabouts just because it's busy. Tough titties. Wait.

On the credit side, they're typically much better drivers than other motorists, they usually check their mirrors and they are often kindly disposed to bikers, i.e. they see you behind them and pull over slightly to let you pass.
Yes there are a lot of embittered old farts (a skills shortage means that lots of drivers are middle aged or elderly), and quite a few dodgy characters but you can't really generalise about half a million people, they're quite a diverse bunch in many respects.

One of the best replies I've ever seen on PH, was in a thread where the OP went on a huge rant about lorry drivers. Crap drivers, think they own the road, they sit level with each other so nobody can overtake etc. There's far too many on the road and it's totally unnecessary. OP was firing back and forth with replies until one reply, from a lorry driver, simply said 'if you don't want so many HGV's on the roads, then stop buying food/clothes/goods from supermarkets and shops and grow/make your own.' OP never came back after that.

Tipper drivers are the very worst
Followed by London buses
Brace! Brace!
To be fair to the tipper drivers, have you ever driven a tipper? Always loaded to capacity (or over), never specced with enough power, never specced with sufficient gearing, spartan interiors, offroad bias drivetrain. And to top it off they tend to have the most longevity of fleet vehicles, companies are still running Foden tippers for crying out loud. Tipper drivers are the very worst

Awful things to drive, it's no wonder they take out their frustration on the traffic around them.
Mostly OK. However, with a lorry in lane 1, a car A in front in lane 2 with me behind him, and a car B slowly overtaking in lane 3 (on cruise presumably). Said lorry indicates to pull out, car A indicates instinctively but cannot move, I am trapped (mental note to ensure more room, though I was driving sensibly with adequate space around). Said lorry pulls back, and blasts me with his horn. I pass him and ignore his blast.
On 3 laners, I usually do not overtake lorries in lane 1 unless nothing is alongside me in lane 3. Not much space in the above case. Also, I usually use cruise as a fall back speed, and apply a plus 5-10 mph burst to overtake, I rarely overtake at plus 1 or 2 mph. No point in ‘junior’ elephant racing.

Don't drive the big stuff but have 40+ years experience all over the UK and Europe.
On the whole truckers are pretty good drivers and good people in general .
There are a few idiots out there but not as many pro rata as general drivers .
We have far more laws , rules and regulations to know and adhere to than other motorists , we even have our own "police" the DVSA .
We have on going training and certification and medicals to pass to continue to work .
If we all behaved in the way some of the public believe we do there would be absolute carnage out on the roads .

Murdering prostitutes
This is the only thing so far which is accurate. The rest is whining from car drivers who have little idea what large vehicle drivers have to deal with (mostly stupid s in cars), as well as little idea what they're doing or talking about.
Got to go: prostitute has nearly managed to wiggle free...
No, but there are lot of ***** in cars out there.
Motorways are 70 mph roads. Why is it that so many car drivers want to drive between 50 and 55mph? Puts them immediately into the vicinity of the average truck speed.
When the truck goes to overtake the car doing 50 mph, the car driver suddenly gets a burst of speed and zooms off into the distance.
That is when things are going well.
The other scenario is that the 50 mph driver suddenly decides they do not like being overtaken by a truck so they speed up sufficiently to stop the truck overtaking, thus keeping the truck in the 2nd lane. Will not go above 56 mph so the truck is left hanging in the middle lane.
I often wonder do these people deliberately go out to ps off a truck driver? I meet so many daily.

I would definitely turn into a right if I became a lorry driver.
Most of them have the patience of a saint from what I've seen. So many bellends in cars surrounding them all the time.
I just have no patience with such idiocy.

I drive a ripper lorry and I am a polite, well-spoken middle class ex-publicschoolboy. If you were to come into ‘conflict’ with me on the road then it would be the result of your own shortcomings.
It is true though that the scruffier the job, the scraggier the driver and muck-away type tippers are at the bottom of the pile, although higher up than skip lorry drivers!
