Its a divided world I believe. Selling all the marques new and used on a daily basis, the ones that get all the attention are
Ranger WIldtrak & Amarok
Farmers - L200/Dmax
Hilux - Toyota drivers. Or someone who wants something to do everything ok.
As a towcar the ranger is superb, the Amarok is very car like, the L200 is better than before, but still not amazing, the Hilux I find very dull, and lacking in power. I prefer a late D40 Navara over the new NP300, but they aren't bad.

Currently in a Ranger Limited with all the options except off road pack.
I had an L200 Trojan(iirc) for a couple of weeks while my S4 was repaired, i had a Barbarian for a day. Barbarian drove well but the Trojan was awful, as it was lighter it skipped all over the road and traction was laughable.
I went round all the current models at a car show recently, it confirmed I'd made the right choice with the Ranger. I wasn't a fan of the interior in the Amarok, even by pickup standards it felt cheap.
L200 was off the list after my S4 did the head gasket anyway, it doesn't matter how many people tell me its an all new block im not convinced. The limited edition does look really good though. I'm not convinced it will age well either. Auto has paddle shift but is only 5 speed, display looks decades older than the rangers.
I like the fiat and if i needed a workhorse I'd have one as they look better outside and are much cheaper so you'd shoulder the rust issues more. Bit different when its a 30k Barbarian with rusty side steps after one winter.
I was very impressed with the Navara inside and I'd say the quality is on a par with the ranger, seats were typical Japanese though and have short squabs and they're quite shallow.
Isuzu looks cheap, feels cheap and I'd need some convincing about a 1.9 towing 3.5t. By all accounts the normal ones are very good workhorses but the chavved up one looks garbage.
As a final note, everyone running Series 4 L200 round here are all on Limited or Wildtrak Rangers. There's 4 in my street alone.
Couldn't get a test drive in a VW as the new engine was on its way and i needed to order.

Hilux for people who need a pick up , sadly let down by TGB who think people will put up with also ran engine when a simple web search reveals other markets get a 2.8 diesel version a 2.7 4 cyl or bigger V6 petrol ... so even being without doubt the best build quality and having reliability second to none never going to be the first choice of leisure /tax dodger buyer...
so ford are selling heaps because they fit a powerful 5cylinder transit engine ,VW because people think V dubs are awesome , nissan and isuzu because they do a good deal, mitsubishi because they work hard to market them..

Not a lot in it, all the big options on the market right now are fairly good, a few excel at specific tasks, the Navara and Ranger are both fantastic towing platforms, I have heard the Isuzu is also fantastic, also falls below the 2050kg weight line, haven't driven one myself.
Hilux imo the new one is a bit of a letdown, far to heavy without the GTW to back up its weight. Still a solid truck though, no doubt still loved by farmers and ISIS militants all over the UK.
L200 is still the best for lighter work imo, best 4WD system, fantastic road handling under light loads and best in class turning circle
On the budget end of things, the Great Wall Steed is doing everything a 10 year old truck can, for the same price of a 10 year old truck, but new. Heard really good things from the couple of folks who run them.
VW Amarok has st-tons of bling, perfect for the side of the market that wants st-tons of bling.
