Hey Guys, Some help please.
My M Reg Daf 45 is having some issues. After about 20min of driving she started to surge and lose power. Stopped her, fired her back up and works fine for about 2 min then nothing again.
Changed lift pump, and fuel filter. Took her out Sunday and she flew, like a new lorry. 45 min drive to the show, and then home. Half way home she went again, surging and lack of power. Manage to get home at 10mph.
I have stripped her down I have removed the electric strangle, that's not the fault, I have opened up the fuel filter and its half full. Lift pump appears to be working fine and pumping strong. Any ideas??

Blockage in exhaust? (i.e. collapsing baffles?)

Metal fuel tank?

If so, is it corroding from the inside out and the rust particles are moving around during running and blocking the fuel feed out of the tank?

check the fuel pipe is braided, I had a Fiat 500 that used to conk out after a while and it was the non braided fuel pipe getting warm and therefore more flexible, and the suction of the pump collapsed it, thus starving the engine of fuel.

air vent blocked on the fuel tank or cap? Also rubbish in the tank, fit an aftermarket fuel fiter & see whether it has fuel in when it quits.

We have a 2005 LF and had problems with it starting which turned out to be the housing that the fuel filter screws into. But have been cracked or something which was letting air into the fuel system.

As yours is quite old, it may be that the fuel lines are leaking on the suction side which would let air in.
