Which route for provisionals/tests?
Discussion
Hi all, I've done my reading and I think I've worked out the best thing to do, but someone here will know for sure.
We've decided to train another driver at work. He's 23 and has only B licence at the moment. He's been driving vans for us for a while but he really wants to get into trucks. We haven't trained anyone for quite a while now and some things have changed. Our latest driver did his tests in 2002.
I'm trying to look for the best route to cover all the bases - would this be to put him through C and then CE, ignoring C1 and C1E as they'll be included through C and CE?
We are only at the stage that he's got the provisional application and medical paperwork so far. He doesn't want to fill anything in until we know what the best course of action is.
Thanks very much

As you've already assumed, going straight to C will cover C1, and then CE will get you C1E. Once you've got CE you'll also get the BE entitlement, which surprised me as I thought they'd use that as another money spinner.
If you haven't already, take a look on trucknet forums, there is lots of useful information on there, plus some links to videos for the CPC Mod 4 which I would personally recommend any newbie watch as the helped me immensely.
PS - the cost should be around £1200 for cat C and around £1000 for CE (that's about what it cost me, all within the last 20 months)
If it's your company that will just be paying for him to go to a training school, again trucknet has a comprehensive list of training schools up and down the country
