Not sure if this is the right forum but I am trying to find a pick up (double cab) with a big enough load bed length to take a teenagers quad bike (Polaris 200) so for that I need ideally 1650 length.

Amarok / Navara / Ranger/ Hilux etc would be ideal but they all seem to have a max loading length of 1500.

Could I strap it down and leave the tailgate down to lengthen the bed a little or is this highly illegal? I need to be able to tow an Ifor Williams trailer with two further quads on it, and carry two sons + me + picnic + loads of protective clothing / helmets etc in the vehicle!

There is a Navara with a longer load bed but it has suicide doors and very basic seats in the rear which don't look ideal for longer journeys, or particularly safe.

Help PH, HELP..!

I think that length might work in a Landrover 130 crew cab, just - I think they can take 1.7m?. Also not particularly comfortable or safe though.

Would LWB crew van maybe work better? LWB Transit or Master maybe? Would be lower for loading the quad in too. Downside would be lower speed limits on some road. Could even get a Sprinter 4x4 or Transit AWD if that is a requirement. You would want good tie downs as I doubt most bulkheads would stop a quad in a crash.

Yes no reason why you would have a problem leaving the tailgate down as long as your load is secure and the rear lights are visible , just check to see you have enough clearance and it doesn't contact the trailer when you manoeuvre !!!!

Any chance you could get a trailer big enough for 3x quads?

I'll echo the above about the tailgate. Perfectly legal provided your load is safely strapped in, my only warning would be to be very careful that your overhanging tailgate doesn't foul on the front of the trailer when you turn sharp corners, I have seen that happen before with a guy clipping the front of his caravan with the open tailgate, punched a big hole in the front of the caravan biggrin.

My recommendation is for an L200, has one of the best 4x4 systems on the market if that matters to you, also has a very nice comfy interior in Barbarian trim. The new Rangers are awesome too, my boss has one of the new 5 cylinders which he has straight piped, sounds hilarious and could pull a house down.

Big yank stuff is more hassle than they are worth imo, but whatever floats your boat. If you want something bigger a crew cabbed transit/daily/sprinter pickup would suit.

I think the best choice would be either an American truck, bed lengths from 5ft 6in to 8ft of a larger trailer. All the European trucks have short beds in crewcab form.

Doesn't the Navara King Cab still have a 6ft bed?

Ranger supercar 1847 load length if that helps and you can get away with the smaller cab
