Iveco Dailly, any good?
Discussion
Current van is a LWB Transit, 155ps, next van will be an auto which limits my choices. Considering an Iveco 3 litre 205bhp with the ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox. I can get pretty much what I need on the options but was looking for input from anyone with experience of them, so whadya know?
I sell commercials for a living, and would only have an Iveco if you have great local support. They aren't the most reliable vehicles on the earth. Are you looking at these for weight carrying, or the price, or the auto?
If its only for the Auto, look at a big sprinter, much better gearbox

We run about forty of these and generally replace them at around 400,000 miles. Properly maintained they are very reliable. Half our fleet runs at night covering 4-500 miles five nights a week. Fuel consumption is around 30mpg.
Substantial discounts are available on new. PM me if you want a contact name and number.

Thanks for the replies, yes I want an auto, we have a dealer very local although I obviously haven't had any prior dealings with them.I will be enquiring about the Sprinters. I want to stay under 3500kg as I don't want to get into operators licence & all the other stuff that goes with it. I'm waiting for them to get back to me about a demo van.
I think people are getting confused about the Daily gearboxes.
The previous auto box was the Agile and this really wasn't a great gearbox. It was slow to change, sometimes it didn't select the correct gear and worse still, it occasionally got stuck.
However, the new 8 speed Hi Matic gearbox is brilliant. I would go so far to say that I don't believe anything betters it in the 3.5t range. Anyone' who puts it down, hasn't driven it.
It's the same ZF gearbox that has been used in Range Rovers, BMW's, Maseratis...this list goes on.
After you get to try the demonstrator, ift won't be down to the gearbox if you decide not to purchase one.

Of virtually no relevance to the thread but we ran two 35.10 Turbo Daily's in the 80's. One managed 690k and the other just over 740k. One clutch, one turbo and recalibrate the pump. The cabs however were made of tinfoil and both were repaneled. Twice.
That era was made in the old Alfasud factory which explains a lot. They were great in their day though, massively faster than anything else.

This is what I've been told, I've driven a late model Discovery & was quite impressed with the gearbox, just waiting for the demo. The previous auto box was the Agile and this really wasn't a great gearbox. Having driven many Daily's/Sprinters on multi-drop work over the years I feel I should offer my opinion. Sorry if it's a bit late.
The older Iveco with the Agile gearbox is an awful thing to drive, borderline dangerous at times imho, steer well clear. However, the new 8spd one is a very nice van to drive. We have had front struts collapse on several of them before 30k miles, though. I tend to prefer the Sprinters (again new 7spd auto much better than old 5spd) as they are a much nicer place to spend your day, more comfortable, better stereo etc.
