I have a London delivery on Tuesday, to the Barbican centre on silk street and I'm looking for a bit of local knowledge please to make it as painless as possible.

The drop is pretty flexible and will only require about 2 hours on site anywhere between 08:00-16:00, so starting from Glasgow on Monday and being free to book a hotel anywhere I like for Monday night, (Me,2 fitters and a company bar tab? what could possibly go wrong?) would my best bet be to get down to around Watford for about 18:00 (fitters wont work late) and be out the door on Tuesday for 06:00 to get avoid some of the rush?

Any route, timings or digs suggestions would be appreciated.

My only piece of advice is that 6 am from Watford is not early enough to avoid traffic in London. It is bad now from about 630 in West London. Probably from about 630 in the centre, too.

Look to leave Watford by 5am to miss most of the worst .
Delivey to the Barbican is pretty good if your vehicle fits down the service road ,height restrictions and the road out is very tight in a 7.5t

I'd aim to arrive in London either side of 6pm on Monday and perhaps head further into town than Watford. The M1 Southbound through Northants/Beds and in to town gets slow late afternoon. I'd also be tempted to stay further East which is more convenient for Barbican and as others have said traffic will be heavy at 6am on Tuesday.

Will make for a longer travel day, but i'd go down this route if possible just to get as close as possible to the Barbican to make the following morning more of a breeze. If you can find a hotel/suitable safe parking for the van in EC1/Old Street you'll be laughing for an easier start on the Tuesday.
