I guess it depends on what you are doing at the moment, I went from an almost minimum wage job, earning about £215 a week, to earning £400 a week, which two years later is more like £550 a week, that's maxing my hours out, working for one of the less reputable employers in the area. But I've not chased the big money elsewhere because I like my job and get to drive a special truck that I really like. I hear in my area (Leeds), you can see 700 quid a week. But I'm always a little dubious of these claims!
A lot of drivers say the job is st now, and it's not what it used to be, but I dont think they have cottoned onto the fact that all jobs are st, and almost all jobs have got worse in the last 30 years.
For me, it would be a no brainier to borrow money to do the licences, because it was a big increase in wage for me, however, you might already be earning £600/week, and you don't have to sleep in a lorry, in that case, it's probably not worth it for you.
