I'm looking to replace our work Transporter and was wondering what the opinion is of the new Vito?

Originally I never considered them because everyone said they were fast and thirsty, two qualities I was not looking for! But the new Vito has a 1.6 diesel which they claim is economical, does anyone have any real world experience they can share?

Thanks, Tony

I'd be wondering if the 1.6 would be powerful enough to be bearable to drive, and if it is I'd be asking what the life expectancy for such witchcraft might be.

Do they still rust like fk? Every vito i looked at, even 3 years old had rust starting or had seen paint. Gave up and got a trafic, on my third now.

Not entirely sure but I suspect the "new Vito" is actually a Renault Traffic/Vauxhall Vivaro/Nissan Primastar or whatever they are called nowadays.
The small merc van, the Citan, is a renault kangoo or similar.

I am a fan of the previous Vito but would not want a newer one due to all the hassle Renault have had over the years in older models with injectors, pumps, gearboxes etc etc.

No, it's a Merc design - although they do seem to be pushing the V-class over the Vito.

The 1.6 diesel is the same OM607 lump as in the C-class etc, though - and that IS a Renault buy-in, with origins back in the early '60s and the Dauphine and 4...

Is it the same engine as the traffic etc?
Whats it like?

In my mind it should be under powered with such a small engine. A shame they have stopped doing the 220bhp model!

I've got a new Trafic with the 120 Bi turbo 1.6 engine. It's way better than the 2.0 I had previously. It's quicker, quieter and more economical. Even if it's not the same engine I wouldn't let the fact it's only a 1.6 put you off.
I've always been put of by the rust on older Vito's, surely they have improved??

I took one of the new Vito for a test drive before I bought the T6 and I found the Vito very sluggish.

At present I'm stuck driving a LWB Nissan Interstar and even it is a nicer drive than the Vito.

I think it's safe to say I wasn't impressed and didn't like it.
