French lunatics, who got caught in the fallout?
Discussion
ME, two days this week, two days last week, good for me as I have had two easy weeks.
Shipped out on the Tunnel, came back last week on MFL Calais /Dover , this week queued for two days for the Dunkerque ferry, 40 degree heat, ran out of everything when I boarded, most of the fking booths were shut, wk port, wk attitude.
An S&K driver (Welsh firm , yellow and red Volvo's) had pulled his curtains outside the heartbeat monitor, they coned his truck off. All in all a hot sweaty lazy few days.
Anyone else?

No one eh...
Probably as a lot of us won't have any idea what you are talking about, especially the last sentence P.S Sort of aimed at truck drivers, who would understand the terminology.

No, fk the French and fk their country. Bunch of petulant children and the main reason why I hate the EU as an idea, anything that puts us closer to those wkers can sod off.
Whilst I agree with you. (I'm interested to see what this Greece thing does to it all) most of the French I know - admittedly from a few years backpacking fairly recently, (so maybe a different crowd), hate the EU as much as you or I. As do lots of Italians. The sooner it collapses and we just go back to a free trade club the better. Lucky for me, At the moment I rarely have to venture south of the M62. So I don't even have to worry about England's st, let alone France's attempts at making the world a worse place. Mainly working to/in Scotland is a dream. Even if they love the EU (which I can't understand, because they'd get all their fishing back).

Anyway, shipping out again tomorrow, well see what this week brings, France again.
You poor bd, they have a wonderful country, great food, some fantastic architecture and interesting historical sites yet they still manage to somehow taint it all with arrogance and attitude.Individually I find French people some of the most charming and affable folk ever but as a larger group they are dreadful in ways I struggle to comprehend and they seem to excel in difficult interpretations of common rules and regulations.
Also, if they will insist on making cars they should be made to keep them within their own borders.
I've been away,in car,for 2 weeks and had no idea this was going on,drove straight into port of Calais ,apart from taking the wrong diversion round the roadworks, there was no queues whatsoever at border controls and got onto 21.45 boat home,Sunday, then saw the chaos on the A20 into Dover.

Out of interest, those who operate over the channel, why do people use Calais so much, it seems with all the hassle of regular industrial action and people trying to climb on your lorry, why not use one of the other ports? Is Calais that cheap, or is it an availability thing?
Yes I find it strange that as soon as the french get the ump about some thing the M20 turns into a lorry park. Its only just clearing now from the last episode .
Why not abandon calais as a viable option for a port?
Tunnel 45 mins, Harwich-Hook 8 hrs.
I do a lot of out one day back the next, or out just 1 day runs, Germany usual destination, there is no viable alternative than tunnel for me, even regular Calais or Dunkirk ferry is too slow.
Plus for my use it's more expensive, I'd have to put prices up considerably & loose most of the work, or just quit most of my Euro work.
Between me & my pal doing the same we are on 75 crossings this yr to now, delays on very few of those.
To say shut Calais is a bit daft, the immigrant issue would just go elsewhere.

Does Dunkirk have much of an immigrant problem?
When I was in Rotterdam and Santander last summer (in the car) I noticed there were zero people trying to get over. I would assume as much as the longer ride wouldn't be pleasant, success would be much easier if entering anywhere but Calais.
