I'm on the lookout for a medium wheelbase/semi-high roof Transit. I've got around £2.5k to spend, maybe a bit more for the right one.

Obviously, rust is the major one to check for, but what else? Not after anything fancy, and the earlier TDDi engines appeal because of less to go wrong. I'm guessing that as with the 2.0/2.2 Ford TDCi's other applications, DMF and injector issues are the things to look out for?

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't get too much trouble with injectors, but at the budget your looking at I would check the following

DMF
Diesel Pump - Not cheap tend to go a lot of the mk6's, if its been done your ok

On Mk7's, EGR Valve is the weakness more than anything. £119 to replace, so not much, but will bring on EML light

I've driven a fair few as hire vans and found them quite comfortable so no worries there.

DMFs were fitted to 120ps and up
So 85/90/100/110/115ps were all solid flywheel.

Injector failure on cyl 3 is a common problem which kills the piston.

Rust.... The bottom half rusts, especially the rear crossmember.

Other than that, if well maintained, they shouldn't give much trouble.
