High and Low Range on one lever, Splitter on the other, Gear Shift makes up the third lever, the question is ........why??

Standard box on these is 13/18 speed Eaton . Some drivers think they look cool with "no air in the chair" and a stupidly long shifter , looks bloody uncomfortable to me .
