50 mph on Single Carriageways

Anything further about upping the LGV National Speed Limit for Single Carriageways from 40 mph to 50 mph in England & Wales?

Somebody on here, my googling, and the info my transport manager makes me 99% sure it's the 6th of April.vtheyre also getting rid of the 50mph on dual carriageways, 60mph now! Woohoo

Limiter will still be set to 54mph though.

The 50 on singles will make a huge difference to us here in Cornwall, fewer asshats in cars coming past in frustration.

Nope, the limit on the motorway is 60 but the legal limit for trucks remains at 56

Im going to be seriously pissed off if the big super market chains still plod about at 40mph.

Nope, the limit on the motorway is 60 but the legal limit for trucks remains at 56

But instead of the usual trying to keep it under 54ish on dual carriageways you now don't have to worry about gaining a bit of speed on the downhill stretches. Or at least that's how I see it. And I think dual carriageways like the a14 with its average speed cameras will be a more pleasant place. (I can never work out if average speed cameras are able to catch trucks on a separate speed limit or are just set to 57mph - 10% +2 so don't get most of us - But could get us if we hit a downhill bit )

Supermarkets are all about PR, They cant be seen to be speeding currently... which is why they dont but at the same time they cant be seen to be causing the queue

The efficiencies in time-saving with quicker deliveries will not be wasted!

time saving? increase of the speed limit on SC to 50 from 40 might, if you are lucky, translate into about 2mph increase in overall average speed, unless you are diving on a very long, straight, junction, bend and traffic free road. So maybe 15 minutes over couple of hundred miles, reality probably less than this. take a realistic look at what average speeds are achieved on your runs, it is surprising how low it is.

Safe and smooth progress, giving yourself more space to read the road and traffic will still be the quickest A to B rather than worry too much than the 50 limit, the increase just gives headroom to protect licence etc:-)

I was reading a Feb truck mag today and both the 50 for single and 60 for dual roads come in on April 6.

This will cause issues too, as most of the muppets don't realise that two lanes in either direction does not a dual carriageway make.

I used to know a Gatso that flashed large vehicles at lower speeds than cars, so I guess they can tell. Always amused me to watch it flash in my mirrors as I went past in a coach as it thought I was a lorry.

They have/had a weighing plate in the road. Obvious when you know what to look for but very rare.
