When you have taken and passed a medical, will your licence only be active from when it is received back, or when it was received by the DVLA, or when you passed?

EH!!!

You send off D2 and D4 forms then get provisional licence from DVLA

The provisional is then used until the test is passed and on passing the test the licence is sent back to DVLA - letting examiner do that is best - you then get the full licence back

You can drive on the test pass certificate but most employers want to see the licence before they let you drive

Has he let the medical expire?

If no then change the photo and get 5 more medical years for free if not had a licence issued since October 2012

If yes then he will need to wait until DVLA medical send back the licence
