I wonder if the supermarkets will allow their drivers to do it? If not it's pointless.

Initially probably not as they save so much money on fuel.

About time though.

Like every other ending-the-war-on-the-motorist measure proposed by this government I'll wait until it happens before I celebrate.

No need for celebrations, just do 50mph anyway!

A-road limits for cars are continuing to plummet around here. Hurrah!

Sorry Humper, I really want to sympathise but having seen the many shots you post in "views from your cab" I suspect lightning is more likely to strike than a copper with a speed gun where you drive........not jealous at all obviously!!!!

I drive for a supermarket (Tesco) and I asked about this yesterday and got told that no decision would be made until if/when the speed limit was changed

While no doubt there is a fuel saving side to the supermarket speed limits, I know that Tesco implement the speed limits due to not wanting to be seen thundering around on roads dragging a 40ft trailer with tesco plastered all over it, so it's more a safety & public relations exercise than a fuel saving exercise

I thought the limit anywhere other than a 30 was 56mph anyway?

Time to get rid of the 56mph limiters...

Let the drivers actually drive the trucks properly

I agree 100%. Removing the limiters do a lot to rid us of the biggest bugbear of motorists - elephant racing.

not sure if serious ?

on a serious point a lack of enforcement by the police, VOSA and many operators has led to the 40 mph speedlimit being ignord

to answer the popint of those moaning aobt A road speed limits 'plummeting' all those now 50s will , however have everyone doing 50 on them assuming the supermarkets don't decide to enforce a lower target speed (via tracking) for SCs - though that said they don;t enforce lower limits on DCs and even if the speedlimiter is turned down from 56 it;s 52/53/54

in terms of limiters - Absolutely remove the limiters from LGVs and PCVs however mandate independent GPS tracking and so on - be careful what you wish for an on-vehicle solution doesn;t create an impetus for remote enforcement and road pricing infrastructure to be put in place ...

I wouldn't support a move to delimit HGVs, even if it were possible, which it is not.

The absolute speed limit for an HGV is 60mph in this country remember; the 56mph/90kph limit comes from the EU and their law supersedes our own.
