Please allow me to have a mini-rant about the quality of service provided by my local truck dealership (a Swedish brand, sited near Glasgow).
The phrase 'utterly dismal' doesn't even come close. I've just had my 18-tonner back from a routine service with these people, and it came back worse than it went in: broken mirror casing not replaced, despite an assurance from the service manager that it would be; grease marks on the passenger seat; rear light cover broken, presumably by the 'mechanic' changing a blown bulb. I could go on...
Why do these people get away with shoddy service, abrupt staff, prices that would make your hair curl?
Answer: because they can.

i would never use a dealership for servicing or inspections , too may couldnt care less fitters(and i use that term in the loosest term)
find a small independent, my local one use to do my inspections sunday afternoon.
just keep the account open for parts and emergency cover

Re the techs std is poor tbh however they have all have accses to training / info that back street Bob wont have.
As vehicles progress back street Bob is getting less and less able to work on vehicles, In some cases think they can and all will seem fine but because they dont have all the info, miss steps the vehicle has premature failures etc

I work for a firm with a depot in Glasgow, & it's not really 'my' truck, it's just the one I use every day, and we have to take them to the main dealer for service. Unfortunately I was unable to pick it up myself, and an agency driver, who didn't know any better, collected it.Plastic chicken said:

latest diagnostic gear ,offer a bespoke service and have a good record of looking after trucks new and old, so back street bob or main stealer thankfully there is competition and a choice.
Where do they get the diagnostic stuff from.....truck producers don't give it out and the numbers are too small to make it worth independants investing?
I havnt come across anything that good that it can sort anything except the simple stuff.
I guess it's easy to have a go at the main dealers though?!
