As i drive about in the day i often pass lorries on the motorway that are carrying paper being taken to be recycled

why is it these lorries always have loads of gaps that allow the paper to fly out all over the show

I was running early for a call today so was slowly following one along the m27 and in the 20 minutes i was behind it there was a continuous flow of scraps of paper

why dont they get pulled for it, and who thinks the design is good enough?!

They seem to catch fire more than other ones as well, even petrol tankers. Think they're careless personally

For the purposes of recycling segregation, what's the cut-off between paper and cardboard?

Cereal packet can go in either as far as I'm concerned. Above that is pure cardboard though. smile

What I really hate are Tesco steak and kidney pie boxes that have a small plastic film section in the cardboard. Pointless as all they show is a bit of pastry and I know that pies have pastry on them.

Depends what type of truck it is, I used to pull a walking floor trailer and that had a pull over sheet that sealed the top of the trailer.
Some roll on/off containers have poorly fitted sheets that let debris out.
It 's the responsibility of the driver to ensure his load is secure and not blowing away.

That's a good benchmark - thanks. smile

Aye, it's always a dilemma with those boxes ... all in the bin or tear off the plastic and recycle the cardboard. wobble

Well I assume that when they recycle the card the plastic bits float of. After all windown envelopes can go in paper recycling (apparently!).

Yeah, "contaminated" we call that kind of stuff. Has to go through different machines to separate it all out. Just means your local council get slightly less money when they sell it to someone like us. smile
