Discussion
I'm just about to start driving a 7.5 GVW and have applied for my Digital Tacho.
I have a grandad licence.
It appears I need to do my cpc training before September is this correct eg can I start driving without CPC?
Any ideas on costs of the CPC and any recommendations for SE or SW London.
Thanks

You need to do the cpc by sept , you can drive as soon as you have the digi card.
The cpc requires 35 hours of classroom based tuition , which will usually be split into five sessions of 7hrs , thats 5 days, and is the biggest load of old brollyhooks .
It is various modules covering all you need to know to be safe and legal
you can do the same module five times ! Yes it's that stupid !
All sorts of literature out there to cover it , the training provider will have copies of everything you need.
Get them to go over driving hours and using a digi card .
Ask any questions on here we are a friendly and knowledgeable bunch.
I found having a copy of Haynes Truckers Guide to be very handy as most of what you need to know is in this book including truck stops for most of the country.
Google training providers for your area.
Good luck !

Well, its coming to the time o may have to get my finger out and do this st. Rather than do the useless safed driving/ first aid/ other pish courses, is it possible to cover it by proper training? As in renweing my CPCS qualifications, doing an ADR course, Moffet ticket? You know, something that may actually help me in my job?
I'm lucky that as i'm not a "Grandad" I covered it on the path to doing my driving test last year with a "practical" CPC test, even that was a load of tosh.
They were only really interested in how i'd search for illegal immigrants aboard my vehicle and then we literally brushed on what would be safe to tie certain loads down...nice to see the priorities are there.
Am I right in thinking that once I have to renew my CPC in the classroom in a few years the modules are literally a walk in the park?

Many courses suc has you describe are approved for dcpc but cost a little more than the basic non dcpc course to cover the extra costs involvedCheck on the JAUPT site to see what courses are available in your area

Doing the ADR course will give you 3 days of the CPC.I did not enjoy this course, it bears little relevance to actually doing the job, its been designed by scientists and civil servants and not transport industry professionals.
Some of the rules and regs are a complete farce.
Will not renew mine when it's due.

A. Find a qualified centre. Hand over about £60
B. Find seat in classroom, sit on it for 7 hours
Repeat x5
Done
HTH
This is the DCPC not the "full" CPC (for O licence applicants)
the UK offered to be the 1st EU country to commence the DCPC, the date for D1/D licences was LAST September
the gossip was it could be done away with........
