I've had mine for nearly a year, paid for by the firm I work for.

My course was held by a firm in South Street, Glasgow; I found the instructors interesting & well-informed, & although some drivers felt it to be a waste of time, I learned stuff & enjoyed it.

Mine was paid for by my employers too but we weren't paid for the extra Saturdays

attending the courses.

I suppose I was quite lucky in that regard, too. All our drivers did the course over several months, a day here & there, but always during the normal working week, so we were paid while attending.

Theoretically you could do the same module five times (daft but true, and that's the biggest problem with this legislation); however I was able to do five different ones.

To those who haven't started yet: it's not a test; there may be a questionnaire as part of some modules, but it's to let the tutors know how much information you've taken in. You can't 'fail' it, you just need to be there.

Ive seen a good number of Class2 jobs stating that they 'meet national minimum wage', as though thats a bonus as opposed the minimum that theyre legally able to pay!

I have an HGV licence, but no drivers CPC and no real interest in doing it for a lliving. Let them employ Hungarians and Romanians.

You're right about the class 2 wage, it's a bit of a shocker up here in the northwest, maybe employers think new drivers only have the option to use class 2 as a route to class 1 so take the piss with the wage?
I went from passing my 1 to a job in 4 months through persistence and door knocking, my company, one of the biggest but not ES, will look at new drivers no problem, I have been told by others that most big companies will, even more so with the CPC deadline looming.
It's drivers like yourself who are packing it in instead of doing CPC that will leave a shortage. I have seen both a significant increase in agency wages for class 1 being offered and the gradual removal of the " 2 year " loophole. It's often down to 12 months or even "some experience", I still get my Monster updates by email so I keep seeing this.
Agencies are also offering modules for free in return for loyalty!
There might well be a few more European drivers coming over but you have to wonder how many current euro drivers will be qualified by deadline judging by their current attitudes to legislation.
I know 3 people who have recently, or currently are , taking there licences to see if they can get jobs ( they currently are employed so are biding their time )
I believe the average wage at our company is aprox 34K for core drivers, some a bit less some a lot more in the specialist division, LPG or Fuel tankers for instance. Even the shunter at Stobarts get 25K!!!
I have seen 2 wage rises in the last 12 months because we have all done our CPC and the attitude seems to be to keep hold of decent drivers which clearly is a nice change.

Got mine at the start of the year, we have compulsory training days on drivers hours etc which the insurance company insist on, these count as part of the cpc plus I did the ADR course which counted as three days.
Has anyone heard how the coach and bus drivers got on as they needed to be qualified by September and I heard the take up had been less than 50% .

I found having an Ipad and playing fruit ninja with sound turned off got me through the last module I did. Still I was taught how to ride a bicycle on the road! If it wasn't paid for by the company there's no way I'd be doing this pointlass bks.

Its all down to the area covered though, and how well its organised, i had a mate at Securicor Omega (SOL?) who could do 200 a day, with 50 in one high street, up one side, down the other, I used to do 30-40 and struggle over a 300 mile loop, its all in the detail, mine was a shop in Telford, then 2 in shrewsbury, 1 in ludlow, then market drayton....
