Anyone use this stretch regular?
The roads have been murder this week, dark nights, half term etc.
But 5 closures, in 5 days on this stretch and at least 1 death sadly that I know of, why is this stretch so bad???
Been discussed at length on truck forums, and it seems the general consensus is that this stretch is pretty dodgy, and very narrow so alot of drivers are saying it should be trucks restricted to lane 1 only and maybe a max limit of 40 mph for all. To be honest, on this stretch i have to agree.
thoughts please?

I've been down there quite abit recently, it is narrow in places and you really do have to keep your self on the ball.

However time of day really does dictate the type of drivers your going to deal with.

Early mornings are shocking, the usual ill steam up the outside lane and cut across brigade etc.

Afternoons just seem to be pot luck.

RE: the narrow lanes I if im overtaking anything in lane one I always straddle lanes 2 and 3. (im not just overtaking for the sake of it either its often due to a junction etc)

I've said it on other threads, its a 9 mile stretch of roads works which is half empty with no one working on it, why do they have to be 9 miles long?

Why not 2/3?

I was on it yesterday and it's a frustratingly long section to be stuck on. If they insist on having such a long section of roadworks then some solutions to the accidents would be to ban lane changing, easily enforceable with the av speed cams, and also close the exits and entrances, a foreign truck driver nearly caused a major pile up yesterday by pulling straight out of a slip road causing chaos as people took avoiding action. Most accidents are caused by people suddenly changing direction or speed (braking suddenly) these measures would go a long way alleviate trouble. Why does the roadworks run through the Waltham Cross tunnel, I thought this had been upgraded a year or so ago?

As a motorist who uses this section daily, i agree re the lanes too narrow. However, a bd foreign driver in an HGV doesn't give a fk. On top of which, the cameras are inoperable. Its death race 2000 out there, and it needs to be re designed.

The main problem is the state of the road itself, in lane one this is the old hard shoulder which has all the old drains and gullies and in many cases has sharp dips and rises which can catch the unwary and deflect lightly loaded trucks of any size across half a lane in the blink of an eye, add this to the drivers that wander about under normal conditions and disaster soon follows.

this is spot on!!!
went through today with a container on, 40 ft box full of wine approx 41 tonnes. went all the way through the anti clockwise bit on the inside lane and you really need to be on the ball.
