anyone had good or bad experiances with having there truck remapped? we are toying with the idea of having it done, thought id ask before doing anything, no massive hike, a 380bhp up to a 430bhp.
thanks in advance.

For power or economy? Where your economy improves it can pay for itself many times over.

I've had it done on numerous cars with no ill effect, increased power and mpg it's a no brainer in my opinion

If I had my own unit I wouldn't hesitate to do it

Worked great on my two diesel cars - more power, response and mpg.

No idea what it's like for a truck, though I imagine the engine will be working harder than a car's for a greater proportion of the time so heat build-up / cooling might be more of an issue?

Everyone Ive spoken to has been happy with most seeing worthwhile improvements in economy. Many were probably done by The Derv Doctor in Ashbourne, but this is subjective at best.

the only lorries ive seen mapped have both blown pistons , but I must add , these were doing spain at the time and the only reason we could find was that in the mapping they run them leaner than usual so you don't get the cooling effect of diesel into the pot and coming down Pamplona , ( where they both blew pistons ) it was the sudden drop or climb of atmospheric pressure .
my tuppence worth , Volvo spent millions getting power and economy to a degree of each other , do you think some bloke in a shed can improve on it ?

Volvo struggled to get the engines through Euro IV, V or whatever despite spending tens of millions. Sometimes they work better with non-Euro-friendly settings.

Agree, I had an FH12 420 that had a 20% power increase, this was at the time the standard remap, it lasted five miles before the engine self destructed, however with new pistons it went ok for a couple of years, you also have to think about you drive train, using my old one as an example, you are making a 420 a 500, you can do this but the 380 for example had a much weaker clutch as I remember, so that wouldn't be the one to remap.

thanks for all the replies guys, the lorry is a 380 daf cf 8 wheeler, trouble with a 380 compared to a 340 is the gearing is longer, the 340 actually has nicer gearing round town, the 380 is great most of the time on the motorway with the longer gears, but if you get to a hill the 340 will be going past because of the slightly lower gearing. I just wanted to get the 380 pulling a little more, I drive it myself all the time & I don't drive it hard as its the only lorry we have, by the sounds of it maybe its better leaving it alone & look at trading it in next year. thanks again guys.
regards. paul.

340? *shudder* That must be pedestrian. Having run a 380 Id have liked a little more; maybe 420...

the 380 is a nice lorry, just a bit flat feeling. I can see what you mean about a 420 though, that would be about right I think, I will have to have a go in a scania 380/420 & see what I think.

I know someone who runs a 380 Scania 6x4 insulated tipper and he sees incredible mpg figures, as a result of never really having to thrap it. Another fellow who I dont know, but am aware of, has a V8 in what is now a ten tonne four wheeler. His mpg figures are shocking, but he certainly has a smile on his face. hehe

I bet he does! sound great those scania v8's. lick
mines not too bad on diesel for a tipper, ive been getting between 8.9/9.3 on a run this week, normally around 7.5/7.9 around town. like I say, I don't drive it hard, tippers have a hard enough life already, especially with some of the driving ive seen! the guy where we park the lorry has just got a 380 8x4 scania, once its been through the workshop I will take it round the block & see how I get on. scratchchin

Tarmac tippers tend to have quite a hard life on the road, too...
