Afternoon guys,

Just wondering what is involved on the medical once you have your provisional for C1 licence?

Thanks!

yes Medical first and then provisional as far as I can remember. You just piss in a bottle (for alcohol and drugs) and answer the usual stupid questions your doctor asks you, nothing difficult. As long as you turn up sober and don't have any conditions that would stop you obtaining a car license anyway you will be good to go.

When did you last have an HGV medical?

If you are paying more than about £50 for a D4 form medical then consider yourself ripped off

You need to send the completed D4 form with the provisional D2 form at the same time to DVLA - as well as both parts of licence

Tick C & D only on the D2 form - nothing else

C covers C1 and D might be handy in the future so the medical for that is then covered

Why are you only going for C1 and not C ?

About 10 years ago, why what do they do now then? I promise that this job is not worth having anying inserted or having to break into a sweat, so if its either of those go find something else to do hehe

I hope you have thoroughly investigated what the job market is like for under age 25 newly qualified LGV drivers

Do not believe what you read from training company sites

Do not book with a broker but always visit a school before paying any money

My doctor says its getting stricter and he sees more people failing each year.

I have to say that mine wasnt too different. Id had a diabetes test the week before, so he wriote up my pharmacy test result on my say so. A friend was asked if he could read the board and started to: the doctor waved him off and said that he only needed to know if he could - he neednt actually do it!

If you pay your own GP £200 then you may get a thorough going over, but if you pay a travelling medical firm £50 then theyre pretty brief.

Unreliable and unprofessional. Dont actually hold medicals in most of the cities on their map/web site - try to find a date on their calendar. Dont reply to emails and the location of their (ex) Sheffield 'clinic' wont even talk about them.

Pay £5 more and use the alternative form that I have linked to.

I paid £50 for my last HGV medical although normally he charges double as I claim it back. My doctor is quite strict, he goes through everything with a fine toot combe including a full colour sight test using the entire book and he still managed to cock the form up which was returned to me by the DVLA.
I had a race licence medical, together with stress egc, a few years back and for the eyesight test the consultant asked if I could read a sign in the corridor, I walked up to it and said yes, I can now, he laughed and said that'll do.

unless of course the C1 is a adjunct to a potential job ... like Ambulance Staff ( loads of Ambulances are C1)or Equestrian work ( again loads of 7.5 tonner 'boxes)...

Why not go straight for your class 2? Can you still do that?

On my medical the nurse asked me to read as far down the eyesight chart as I could.

"I can read all of them" I said

"Oh great" she said, ticking the box...

Not uncommon. Id go straight to Class2 too. You can do it aged 18 or over if you can find the right employer (who youll be apprenticed to, your licence will be endorsed to this effect and youll not be able to change).

EH !! - if you are referring to the young driver scheme then that ended 10/09/2009 when the new dcpc started

An 18 year old can now get any LGV licence but will need to pass the initial dcpc if wanting to drive commercially or will be driving a LGV over 7.5 tonnes and under age 21
