The Eddie Stobart Show
Discussion
Yep, it's back, and our cheery truckers and their heavy metal machines are pounding the tarmac keeping the wheels of industry turning, or something like that...
We all know that recruitment levels are low, and next year when the CPC kicks in the industry will be in crisis, with a huge shortage of drivers, apparently. Wages are set to 'soar', as demand exceeds supply, so hang on to your hats, people...
A show like this could potentially attract a lot of young people to the industry.
But I'm not so sure....
Can't really put my finger on why....

I think the show does very well in over-dramatising everything unnecessarily. I also think if someone wanted to drive a truck after watching it, they'd have a culture shock when they joined the industry because the real world is very different to what is on the TV.

In my quiet periods, I've considered being a HGV driver. Spent the 80s riding dispatch bikes and driving vans and 7.5t trucks around the UK but.........
Over £3k to train and then no one will take you on due to your lack of experience. OK fair enough but it means trying to get work with companies that only pay £7.50/h and as you are restricted in how many hours you can do, you can't make up the money.
I can't imagine the likes of Stobart and Salversson have trouble getting new recruits.

I suppose it gives the general public an insight into lorries, but as others have mentioned its sooooo overhyped
They make a huge deal out of very average journeys!
We just done a double drive drive ffom prague to Istanbul as we were on a tight schedule.
Several countries and borders to cross, bent bulgarian police, a puncture and 9 hours clearing customs into Turkey! !! Followed by a convoy from the Turkish border to the gig on the asian side of Istanbul.
That little lot would have given the narrator a blown gasket probably, but its just work!

Plenty of Class2 jobs are now advertising that they meet the national minimum wage! Thats six pounds something an hour!
Still with Romanians and Bulgarians coming wih their 'got it on national service' HGV entitlements, Class1 jobs will soon be following.
I've been earning the same wage for well over ten years now, I think the money has gone out of driving these days, I think the industry has been taxed and regulated to death, the sad thing is I've worked for such absolute tossers that I don't have any sympathy for hauliers anymore.Still with Romanians and Bulgarians coming wih their 'got it on national service' HGV entitlements, Class1 jobs will soon be following.

it's the 'Rav' school of narration - it's over blown on Helicopter Heroes ... so for Eddie Stobart ... They make a huge deal out of very average journeys!

Re the 1st episode ...I knew the Welsh fella ,Ashley Maddox ?...would never complete
7 drops in that London starting from South Wales,it's hard enough doing that many
starting in South.......Croydon...I would've bet my lunch on it.
It also looked like he didn't get held up at most of the BnQs .
One queue of trucks can lose you an hour or more per drop sometimes.
Is Fiona going to appear this series is all i want to know...

Well they do sorta, just the name is gone but I'm splitting hairs.
Must confess to a chuckle whenever I see the fast cut footage & the dramatic music coupled with the breathless footage - will the Stobart under contract to Tesco motor be allowed in to the Tesco Crick RDC run by Stobart arriving at 17:01 for it's 17:00 booking?
Tune in to find out.
These days I look in once in a while to see whose pallets are on board then ring them up on Monday morning to explain why they should use me instead.
