What a day!

Multi dropping in an area I do not know and wasn't expecting to be in, last minute sickness changed my plans for the day. I was driving down a road and I needed to turn around. I spotted a side road that was plenty big enough for me to reverse into and come back out in my desired direction, easy peasy....... or so I thought.

I pulled up on the correct side of the road, flicked on the hazzard lights and checked all my mirrors and cameras, all clear. Engaged reverse accompanied by buzzing and reverse lights. Check all over again, including my reversing camera, all clear. Start to move back, glance all over again and there she is, with a child, in my reversing camera display frown Stopped almost instantly, as I had barely started moving, jumped out of the cab and met the woman.

I was very sorry, obviously, offered help, to call someone etc. She wasn't having any of it and was more interested in having my details. I gave them to her, as per our company policy, she then walked of after saying something about her arm hurting and seeing a doctor rolleyes

Anyway, after calming myself down and getting read for a good telling of when I got back to the depot, the transport manager watched the playback from the camera. Well well well, there it was. She had pulled up and parked her car on double yellow lines on a junction, while on the phone. Got out of the car, bundled her kid on to the street and started walking, still on the phone. Walked right up to the back step of my wagon, without even glancing at it and just carried on walking, all the time still on the phone. No wonder she didn't see or hear my lorry, I know I am also to blame for the incedent but I really do get fed up with pedestrians not taking a bind bit of notice of anything that goes on around them, grrrrrr!

I wouldn't blame you at all.You have to draw the line somewhere with regards to who is ultimately responsible.I have had my share of similar incidents with idiots like this and as far as I am concerned, they were all at fault. These are the same types of people who put prams in the road as they wait to cross, never look behind them as they cross at the heads of T junctions and will squeeze themselves around barriers outside building sites etc.

I was once in a road in London with inches to spare either side of the truck due to parked vehicles and someone emerged between two cars.I was scanning my mirrors at the time but caught his initial movement in my peripheral vision and when I spun my head round, he looked directly at the front of my truck, blipped his remote alarm and simply opened the door of his car a few feet in front of me.Even at 10 mph, I had to brake sharply to save his door.

Another time in stopped traffic at night in a darkened street and again with the side of my truck inches from parked cars, someone tried to get in their vehicle via the available few inch gap they had.Even looking in my mirrors I didn't see this so just pulled slowly away. The slightly open door of his car caught on the curtain straps and 'pinged' along three or four of them before I realsed something was up.He was just stood there squashed against his car trying not to get dragged under the rear wheels when I got out to see what had happened.

thumbup Don't worry about it, regular occurrence around here. I've even had someone walk into mine when it was parked and no one in it, we watched him shouting at the drivers door from across the road. There's idiots everywhere and it's always someone elses fault.

The worst one I had was when some woman came legging out from behind a bus and ended up laying on the floor underneath the front a rizla paper away from the wheel, she just got up and limped off apologising. If she hadn't screamed I probably wouldn't have stopped in time.

Had this before too.

Silly women crossing the road with her buggy whilst on the phone. She didn't even look, just shoved the buggy right out in to the road causing me to swerve and emergency stop.

I then got abuse hurled at me.

Natural selection! I just wish the PC culture of today didn't support it.

Cheers for the positive comments folks smile It has been on my mind somewhat as I've been away from work for a week. I'm almost sure she just had lovely pound signs in her eyes rolleyes As soon as I mentioned the cameras would have caught it all she changed somewhat. These cameras all over the wagon can really be a saving grace, had quite a few instances like that at my depot.

I was all ready for a flaming and being a called a big bad lorry driver biggrin
