DHL anybody work for them?

As title, we've lost a contract to DHL, they will offer a percentage of our work force a job. The job offered will not be on the original contract but something local to us, I don't want weekend work am I in for a dissapointment, I've heard nothing but negatives about them is this right? if I refuse a job do I lose my redundency rights.

A long time ago before DHL Europe got sold off to Deutsche post/bank,it WAS a very good company to work for.
Fast forward about 10 years from that exchange of paperwork and DHL has become an excruciating company to work for with all the corporate BS they try to force feed everyone.Worse than that is managers who lap the corporate BS up and try to force feed it on more.
If you can ignore it then it's fine, but sometimes,just sometimes they will get to you and make you want to scream.A lot of the stuff they do is just utter bks,but they believe in that bks.
I left DHL(8 yrs ago) approx 2 yrs after deutsche post/bank got it's hands on it as I started getting pissed off with it then.I went onto an Exel logistics contract who were then bought out some 3-4 yrs later by fking DHL.
It's not a bad job still and it's well paid,it would be much better without DHL mind.
As above the best policy is to blank the bullst out,there will be times it will make you scream mind when you have to sign yet another piece of paper related to some h+s non issue they want to make an issue and get you to sign for.
To add re weekend work:
There is weekend work at my place but rather than everyone being dicked to do it,there is people who volunteered to do it so they work all their shifts over the weekend.

i can't do the whole big firm mentality. just not me.
my mate works for maritime, and it really suits him, and he plods along quite happily, i tried but got sick to death of corporate bullst.
i much prefer the smaller "proper" haulage type companies, where you are still allowed to think for yourself.

Well the boss has had a meeting today,they want to have a meeting with all of us then again individualy, its been a month now since I was told I was being made redundent, still dont know what is going on, I find the prospect of working for DHL depressing if im truthful, I work for a small general haulage company and find the prospect of being an RDC robot depressing, sorry if that offends anyone who does this work and yes I have worked out of RDC's before, Ill post an update when I know more.

Thanks for the kind offer Fun bus, but I really dont know whats happening yet, Im a shunter now and my job is certainly going, and im one of the cheapest [redundency] to get rid of, DHL have to take 6 drivers off us as they have had one of our contracts, my boss needs rid of 7 (including the mentioned 6), but we dont know whats happening yet.I'm an RDC robot.. Try it for a bit, stop worrying about the job and how much money they're wasting, do as your told, keep quiet and take the money every month. I have more stress at home!

I worked for Exel before and during the takeover by DHL. I still have mates who work on the same contract (we're not a million miles from you, OP).
I guess it depends what you want, but I liked working for them, I'd go back actually, if they offered something I could do.
In my experience, and at my contract, the drivers are/were pretty well looked after, although as ever, some of the drivers thought they weren't, but that seemed to be a characteristic of certain people, rather than an indication of the employer.
Certainly, there was a surprisingly large number of people who came back to work for us after leaving, which suggests that the grass wasn't greener elsewhere.
It probably depends on you as an individual as to whether you'll get along there or not. There is some corporate nonsense as you progress up the ladder, but as a driver it doesn't really effect you all that much, other than being target driven to some extent (ie time windows, hours etc).

As of Fridays meeting DHL do not require us for various reasons, they are making me redundant on the 5th of April, one of our drivers fked up bigtime Friday and has been sack for gross negligence, so that leaves 5 of us being finished, shame really he was the only driver that wanted a job with them.
Update time, I've accepted a job with DHL, its a small contract ill be driver number 10, its all pin to pin work, unfortunately its night's to start with, my reasons are the lack of jobs my way and a largish local haulier has lost its main contract, lots of drivers on the dole minimal jobs, I'd applied for 5 jobs with no luck, 3 agencys even they weren't interested, I have had a class one for 20 years next month and its a clean license, I also can provide anwxcellent CV, this didn't seem to be worth a dam and for the first time in my life I've been stumped for work.
I start next week and this will be a massive change for me, I think a culture shock is in order, the fact I would only receive 1900 quid influenced me, despite this I'm going to make a go of it, so wish me luck guys, ill need it.

I liked DHL, but I appreciate everyone is different. They are a big corporation, and do things a certain way, which might be different to what you're used to. Best thing I can advise is just take it as it comes and not get too stressed, some decisions they make will seem daft, but there'll usually be a reason for it, whether or not it seems to make sense at the time, and chances are it'll never be explained.
However, they do generally look after their staff reasonably well, certainly I've worked for organisations that are far, far worse, generally the smaller, family firms. However, I think it does depend on what kind of person the GM on your contract is, they effect how the managers below them act.
