I've found a couple of threads on this but not really what I'm after.

Basically, my old man would love to have a drive of a HGV so we're looking for some sort of experience day for a Christmas present. All I can find is one where he gets 15-20mins driving which is hardly worth it.

Has anybody got any suggestions where he can have a drive round in a HGV?. Basically just to see how difficult it is!

Cheers

I wouldn't recommend it, I believe the punishment is considerably higher for commercial drivers...

Get an Easyjet to Poland and offer to drive an HGV back to the UK. Based on what I see most days, I don't think you actually need any sort of training.

Only problem with a driving school is if you're going for a lesson you'll need provisional and can't go straight to artics.

You'll need a provisional license to drive a class 2 on the road, also.

So that restricts you to finding an outfit with a big yard really.

I believe Pat Nicholson who runs the PDA do LGV experience days from time to time, but it's not a site I follow so don't know what the current craic is. Try emailing them or joining the forums and asking.

Just done a quick google and found this. Based in Coventry, 2 hours driving, no provisional required, £200+VAT. May be worth a punt if it will mean that much to your Old Man.

HTH.

ETA: Steve Robertson Training Services (SRTS) at Exeter do the same, drive on the old Smeathorpe airfield near Honiton, price is £225. That will be nearer for you. 01392 462000.

Aye, that's the same Steve Robertson I mentioned in my post but I couldn't find his website, only via a referral site.

Ring PB Driver Training in Puclechurch 0117 373778 - Ask for David Davies and tell what you are looking for and that I sent you.

They do have an off road area that they use.

Looks ideal that, apart from possibly the location. Good find.

I would have recommended the HGV driving experience at Manby Motorplex (did one for my 60th birthday some years ago), but they have now closed down. frown

That's one of the ones that I'd found previously. I might PM him and see if he can do a longer session as 15mins isn't long enough.

If this is to be done on public roads then he will need either the licence or the correct provisional
