I can assure you It wouldn't be if you had to drive one all the time
Bloody softy. I drove a Beford TK with no power steering for three years, I am 6foot and anyone who knows TKs will tell you that the TK is best suited to the shorter driver, if I sat straight I could only see about 8 feet in front of me due to my vision being blocked by the roof.
Coupled with the non-turbo engine and the noise and lack of effective heating I can honestly say it was excellent fun and I loved it.
We still run an older fleet, the newest lorry is a 2002 Seddon Atkinson with a Palfinger crane on it, Awesome for our neck of the woods as it can get down our lanes and has good ground clearance and still carry a 20ft container and deliver it.
I think it is my favorite right now.
Here it is picking up an old Marker Buoy.
Old scanias do it for me, travelled all around europe with my dad during school holidays when I was very young. Managed to smash the windscreen on a 111 with my head bouncing about in the cab like zebedee apparently
Can remember a few trips in these ones, running in convoy and playing eye spy with the other drivers over the cb

Thats lovely! Did i clock seveal Atkis from this fleet in Trucking mag just recently per chance? My classic fave has to be the venerable Scania 3 Series -
Find these so appealing on many levels and i've heard they're one of THE drivers trucks of choice too. Can't beat the sound of a 143M 450-500 V8 on open pipes either, throbtastic!
My current fave is the MAN TGX -
One of the nicest looking current models out there IMO and they suit most liveries very nicely too.

i reckon these old scanias will get alot of votes, always seemed to be, even to this day, very popular. Can remember a few trips in these ones, running in convoy and playing eye spy with the other drivers over the cb
i was the same as you, started going out when i was a kid at school, old 111's first, then 112
i used to love the summer holidays
The big bugger on the right is a KrAZ, most likely a 255 so ex-Sovet/Russian army and going by the shape of the wheel arch I say the one on the left is probably a Zil 130

Favourite present truck is without question a Scania R Series, I drive one of the first 54 plate ones, and had two newer ones where I worked previously, and have been offered a newer SSC105 as a "step up" from the Scania, not a chance, I'll stick with this one until the end, or I get another Scania.
Favourite truck of the past is the 2/3 series Scanias, I remember seeing them and the first if the streamline 3 series, and thinking how smart they were.

During my time with Scania Nov 1989 until July 1997 I flogged about 650 new and used Scania's of all types. My favourite truck of all time is unsurprisinglt an R143 Topline Streamline in 450 or 470 guise. Such a delight to drive.
Some above made reference to old British twin steers. Attached are some images of trucks that my dad operated in the 70's [library images on some]
My Dad & My youngest Brother in 1973 in front of an AEC Mandator TG6Re twin steer. AV760 engine. PDC 827H where are you now ?
We also had a Scammell Trunker 2 with a Leyland 680 Power Plus engine and 6spd Scammell gearbox. Looked just like this one.
A nice side on shot of a 6x2 AEC just like ours was.

Eaton Twin Split and a constant battle with door corrosion?
Not this one, this has the 4 over 4 with the air knock over. Also, I waxed the hell out of the doors (well, whole cab) on this one and its still perfect 10 years on. I have some experience of how good at rusting these Iveco cabs are now and I have a spare cab waiting for when I need it. Yes, I am a hoarder.
