Does anyone know what is the largest load area that you can get in a 3.5t van? We currently use Mercedes Sprinter Luton style vans but are finding that we could really do with a larger load area, but not necessarily a higher weight capacity.

We don't really want to get into vehicles over 3.5t as I understand these require tachographs, which is an added cost and hassle when we don't really need the extra weight handling ability, just the load space.

Thanks to anyone who can help

Depending on finances, one option might be to look at one of the bespoke commercial body builders. They could build to your requirements (within the construction and use regs) on what ever chassis cab you want. They'd probably have used examples for sale too.

We used to use a firm in andover to build our recovery beaver tail trucks, but they folded a few years back.

Thanks, since posting I have finally managed to get hold of the people we used for our previous van bodies and they have come up with an answer.

For the sakes of making this thread useful to anyone else who may search in the future I will explain.

Basically, The company we use (based in Manchester) have said that we could go as long as 4.6m internal length, 2.05m internal width and 2180 or higher if needs be.

The downside of this is that the loading capacity of the van will only be around 800kg or about 850kg with the lightweight panels on the body

Speak to Simon at a company called Trucksmith 01884 839061 ref a Knee-Hi ( based on a platform cab , not chassis cab ) loads of volume and well over a tonne payload . and low loading height , and better mpg than a conventional chassis / luton .

NB not associated with this company , but have operated vehicles incorporating this concept . and it works

Also have a look at the "New daily" I think that they have a 17.2 cu metre integral van off the production line, no need for 3rd party body builders etc.

3.5T Ivecos are huge inside, much bigger than the LWB Sprinter
